A highly anticipated, rediscovered collection from Viktor Frankl, published for the first time in the United States, exploring freedom, responsibility, and how we can draw meaning from the temporary nature of our lives From the bestselling author of Man's Search for Meaning, which has sold over 18 million copies The Library of Congress lists Man’s Search for Meaning as one of the ten most influential books in history. Scientists and artists, politicians and celebrities regularly cite Frankl as one of the most important authors every person should read. Now, there is another book for his devoted fans to add to their collections. Published here for the first time in the United States, Embracing Hope continues Frankl’s enduring life’s work and provides even more lessons for those searching for meaning and purpose. It’s made up of four distinct pieces from Frankl on different themes - all uniting around the idea that we should remain open to life even when we have been subjected to appalling injustice, and even when we are faced with our own mortality and the brief nature of our lives. At a time of global suffering where so many are searching for hope and meaning, Frankl’s work seems more relevant and more important than ever. Whether you're a devoted follower of Frankl's work or a newcomer seeking to enrich your understanding of life's purpose, this book promises a captivating journey that will leave you pondering its teachings long after you've turned the final page. Just imagine what would happen, what life would look like, if there were no death. Imagine what it would be like if you could postpone anything and everything, if you could put it off for eternity. You wouldn't have to do anything today or tomorrow. Everything could just as easily be done next week, next month, next year, in a decade, in 100 or 1,000 years. Only in the face of death, only under pressure from the finiteness, the temporal limitation of human existence, is there any point in going about our business, and not only in going about our business, but in experiencing life, and not only in experiencing life but also in loving someone, and even in enduring and surviving something that is inflicted on us.

For most of my life, I was always taught that love is the most important thing of all to embrace, and even though it is truly important to feel and to experience, I have come to see that hope is really what keeps us anchored through all the storms of this life. It would be nice if life was full of one success right after the other, but the truth is that the hard times are what truly helps us become stronger when it seems all the odds of life are against us.If there is one word that has become the heart and soul of who I truly am, it is the word struggle as it is through my own struggles I have truly learned what survival in the midst of the storm is all about. When I think about struggle, in fact, I always think about hope as well because they both are connected as when we struggle we strive to find the hope for better days and a better life. So many people want to reach the good things in life, but what I have realized, and what so many others come to see as well, is that we often have to endure some difficult battles in order to appreciate all the many beautiful gifts God has in store for us.In this book, Embracing Hope in the Midst of Stormy Times, my desire is that every commentary and poetic piece uplifts your heart and soul to help you understand that suffering leads to a new way of life for all of us. I believe everything happens for a reason, and even when many things happen that I do not understand, I have learned to just keep my hopes held high and know eventually everything has a way of working out for the best.

Viktor Frankl, an Auschwitz survivor, once said that to be human is to suffer. Suffering is an unavoidable part of life, but how do we engage our suffering in a culture that teaches us to avoid suffering at all costs? Through the telling of two stories, the horrific death of his parents and the exiled Judeans of the sixth century BCE, Chris Williams offers a way of engaging suffering that questions the dominant voices of popular culture. Perhaps hope is not found in avoiding suffering at all costs, but by inviting others into our darkest moments.

You've lost someone you love deeply. It may have been years ago and it may have just recently happened. There is a deep sense of hopelessness you may be experiencing. You might be lacking peace and wondering how things could ever be right in your world again. Your emotions have taken over, and, although you know God is good, that's a hard truth to grab hold of in this moment. In Lamentations 3:19-24, Jeremiah says: "Peace has been stripped away....Everything I had hoped for from the Lord is lost! The thought of my suffering...is bitter beyond words. I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss. Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, 'The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!'" The grief in Jeremiah's heart doesn't go away, but the focus of his heart changes. He acknowledges his pain and hopelessness, and then there's the "yet". It's saying, "my heart is broken, and yet, God is faithful". He doesn't stop grieving in order to trust God. Instead, he reminds himself of God and chooses to trust Him in the midst of his grief. Yet is written for the Christian who is living in a season of grief and despair. For the broken heart that doesn't know how to move forward in life and in their faith. While still being allowed to grieve, what does it look like to turn to Jesus in the midst of it all and say, "I still trust you because you are faithful!"? The Christian life is one of hope, joy, and peace. These things are not often synonymous with grief, but because of God's faithfulness, we can find hope, joy and peace in the Lord as we grieve the loss of those we love so dearly. As you navigate the pages of Yet, you'll be given opportunities to pour out your own heart, respond to truths from God's word, and put your own grief into words. You'll find amazing truths of who God is, His faithfulness to you, and His presence with you as you grieve. You'll take steps toward moving forward in your life and in your faith journey. While the grief journey is the hardest thing you will endure in this life, God is faithful and will give you all that you need as you cling to Him throughout.
