Feeding our globally expanding population is one of the most critical challenges of our time and improving food and agricultural production efficiencies is a key factor in solving this problem. Currently, one-third of food produced for humans is wasted, and for every pound of food produced, roughly an equal amount of nonfood by-product is also generated, creating a significant environmental impact. In Integrated Processing Technologies for Food and Agricultural By-Products experts from around the world present latest developments, recognizing that while some by-products have found use as animal feed or are combusted for energy, new technologies which integrate conversion of production and processing by-products into higher-value food or nonfood products, nutraceuticals, chemicals, and energy resources will be a critical part of the transition to a more sustainable food system. Organized by agricultural crop, and focusing on those crops with maximum economic impact, each chapter describes technologies for value-added processing of by-products which can be integrated into current food production systems. Integrated Processing Technologies for Food and Agricultural By-Products is a valuable resource for industry professionals, academics, and policy-makers alike. - Provides production-through-processing coverage of key agricultural crops for a thorough understanding and translational inspiration - Describes and discusses major by-product sources, including physical and chemical biomass characterizations and associated variability in detail - Highlights conversions accomplished through physical, biological, chemical, or thermal methods and demonstrates examples of those technologies

This book is unique as it will cover the latest technological advancements in the field of biorefinery and how it is a major futuristic component of global biofuel research. Initially, the role of bio-based waste materials, microorganisms, and their bioactive metabolites in biorefinery will be focused. Further, recent advances and emerging topics that are related to industrially important products such as biofuels, hydrogen production will also be elaborated. The book addresses the lack of understanding of recent technological advancement such as life cycle assessment (LCA) and techno-economic assessment (TEA) as well. The systems for biorefineries demand a methodical approach to identifying effects and evaluating their long-term viability. Thus, a futuristic paradigm focusing on in silico studies, will also be incorporated, enabling us to understand the developments and impacts of bio-based materials towards a circular and sustainable economy. Additionally the proposed book will also discuss various strategies such as the analysis of cost-effectiveness, nanotechnology, value sensitive design (VSD) and also emphasize the economic, technical, and environmental aspects that affect their production as well as the future perspective in terms of the market scenario. Thus, the book will provide cumulative information on various dimensions of biorefinery and its role as a major bio-economic industry of the future for researchers, industrialists, entrepreneurs, career starters, and policymakers. The shift towards a bioeconomy not only promises innovative solutions to pressing global challenges but also opens up new avenues for various industries and policymakers. Thus, biorefinery is regarded as a crucial aspect of biobased economy ultimately leading the path towards sustainability.

Waste Biorefineries Future Energy Green Products And Waste Treatment written by Mohammad Rehan and has been published by Frontiers Media SA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-09-24 with categories.
Energy recovery from waste resources holds a significant role in the sustainable waste management hierarchy to support the concept of circular economies and to mitigate the challenges of waste originated problems of sanitation, environment, and public health. Today, waste disposal to landfills is the most widely used methodology, particularly in developing countries, because of limited budgets and lack of efficient infrastructure and facilities to maintain efficient and practical global standards. As a consequence, the dump-sites or non-sanitary landfills have become the significant sources of greenhouse gases emissions, soil and water contamination, unpleasant odors, leachate, and disease spreading vectors, flies, and rodents. However, waste can be utilized to produce a range of potential products such as energy, fuels and value-added products under waste biorefineries. A holistic and quantitative view, such as waste biorefinery, on waste management must be linked to the actual country, taking into account its socio-economic situation, local waste sources, and composition, as well as the available markets for the recovered energy and products. Therefore, it is critical to understand that solutions cannot be just copied from one region to the others. In fact, all waste handling, transportation, and treatment can represent a burden to the cities’ environment and macro and micro economics, except for the benefits obtained from recovered materials and energy. Equally significant is a clear and quantitative understanding of the industrial, and public potential of utilizing recovered materials and energy in the markets as these can be reached without exacerbating the environmental issues using excessive transport. The book explores new advancements and discoveries on the development of emerging waste-to-energy technologies, practical implementation, and lessons learned from sustainable wastemanagement practices under waste biorefinery concept, which will accelerate the growth of circular economies in the world. The articles presented in this book have been written by expert researchers and academics working in institutions at different countries across the world including Germany, Greece, Japan, South Korea, China, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Iran, and India. The research articles have been arranged into three main subject categories; 1) Resource recovery from waste, 2) Waste to energy technologies and 3) Waste biorefineries. This book will serve as an important resource for research students, academics, industry, policy makers, and government agencies working in the field of integrated waste management, energy and resource recovery, waste to energy technologies, waste biorefineries etc. The editorial team of this book is very grateful to all the authors for their excellent contributions and making the book successful.
