Drawn from the US National Science Foundation’s Symposium on Next Generation of Data Mining and Cyber-Enabled Discovery for Innovation (NGDM 07), Next Generation of Data Mining explores emerging technologies and applications in data mining as well as potential challenges faced by the field. Gathering perspectives from top experts across different disciplines, the book debates upcoming challenges and outlines computational methods. The contributors look at how ecology, astronomy, social science, medicine, finance, and more can benefit from the next generation of data mining techniques. They examine the algorithms, middleware, infrastructure, and privacy policies associated with ubiquitous, distributed, and high performance data mining. They also discuss the impact of new technologies, such as the semantic web, on data mining and provide recommendations for privacy-preserving mechanisms. The dramatic increase in the availability of massive, complex data from various sources is creating computing, storage, communication, and human-computer interaction challenges for data mining. Providing a framework to better understand these fundamental issues, this volume surveys promising approaches to data mining problems that span an array of disciplines.

Knowledge Mining Using Intelligent Agents written by Satchidananda Dehuri and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Business & Economics categories.

Knowledge Mining Using Intelligent Agents explores the concept of knowledge discovery processes and enhances decision-making capability through the use of intelligent agents like ants, termites and honey bees. In order to provide readers with an integrated set of concepts and techniques for understanding knowledge discovery and its practical utility, this book blends two distinct disciplines data mining and knowledge discovery process, and intelligent agents-based computing (swarm intelligence and computational intelligence). For the more advanced reader, researchers, and decision/policy-makers are given an insight into emerging technologies and their possible hybridization, which can be used for activities like dredging, capturing, distributions and the utilization of knowledge in their domain of interest (i.e. business, policy-making, etc.). By studying the behavior of swarm intelligence, this book aims to integrate the computational intelligence paradigm and intelligent distributed agents architecture to optimize various engineering problems and efficiently represent knowledge from the large gamut of data.

What Is Data Mining Data mining is the process of extracting and detecting patterns in huge data sets by utilizing approaches that lie at the confluence of machine learning, statistical analysis, and database management systems. Data mining is an interdisciplinary subject of computer science and statistics with the overarching goal of extracting information from a data set and translating the information into a structure that is understandable for the sake of subsequent application. The "knowledge discovery in databases" (also known as "KDD") method includes an analysis step that is known as "data mining." In addition to the phase of raw analysis, it also includes aspects of database management and data management, data pre-processing, model and inference considerations, interestingness measures, complexity considerations, post-processing of newly discovered structures, visualization, and online updating. How You Will Benefit (I) Insights, and validations about the following topics: Chapter 1: Data mining Chapter 2: Machine learning Chapter 3: Text mining Chapter 4: Association rule learning Chapter 5: Concept drift Chapter 6: Weka (software) Chapter 7: Special Interest Group on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining Chapter 8: Educational data mining Chapter 9: Social media mining Chapter 10: Outline of machine learning (II) Answering the public top questions about data mining. (III) Real world examples for the usage of data mining in many fields. (IV) 17 appendices to explain, briefly, 266 emerging technologies in each industry to have 360-degree full understanding of data mining' technologies. Who This Book Is For Professionals, undergraduate and graduate students, enthusiasts, hobbyists, and those who want to go beyond basic knowledge or information for any kind of data mining.

This book broadly covers the given spectrum of disciplines in Computational Life Sciences, transforming it into a strong helping hand for teachers, students, practitioners and researchers. In Life Sciences, problem-solving and data analysis often depend on biological expertise combined with technical skills in order to generate, manage and efficiently analyse big data. These technical skills can easily be enhanced by good theoretical foundations, developed from well-chosen practical examples and inspiring new strategies. This is the innovative approach of Computational Life Sciences-Data Engineering and Data Mining for Life Sciences: We present basic concepts, advanced topics and emerging technologies, introduce algorithm design and programming principles, address data mining and knowledge discovery as well as applications arising from real projects. Chapters are largely independent and often flanked by illustrative examples and practical advise.

ThePaci?c-AsiaConferenceonKnowledgeDiscoveryandDataMining(PAKDD) has been held every year since 1997. This year, the eighth in the series (PAKDD 2004) was held at Carlton Crest Hotel, Sydney, Australia, 26–28 May 2004. PAKDD is a leading international conference in the area of data mining. It p- vides an international forum for researchers and industry practitioners to share their new ideas, original research results and practical development experiences from all KDD-related areas including data mining, data warehousing, machine learning, databases, statistics, knowledge acquisition and automatic scienti?c discovery, data visualization, causal induction, and knowledge-based systems. The selection process this year was extremely competitive. We received 238 researchpapersfrom23countries,whichisthehighestinthehistoryofPAKDD, and re?ects the recognition of and interest in this conference. Each submitted research paper was reviewed by three members of the program committee. F- lowing this independent review, there were discussions among the reviewers, and when necessary, additional reviews from other experts were requested. A total of 50 papers were selected as full papers (21%), and another 31 were selected as short papers (13%), yielding a combined acceptance rate of approximately 34%. The conference accommodated both research papers presenting original - vestigation results and industrial papers reporting real data mining applications andsystemdevelopmentexperience.Theconferencealsoincludedthreetutorials on key technologies of knowledge discovery and data mining, and one workshop focusing on speci?c new challenges and emerging issues of knowledge discovery anddatamining.ThePAKDD2004programwasfurtherenhancedwithkeynote speeches by two outstanding researchers in the area of knowledge discovery and data mining: Philip Yu, Manager of Software Tools and Techniques, IBM T.J.
