THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER A deeply honest investigation of what it means to be a woman and a commodity from Emily Ratajkowski, the archetypal, multi-hyphenate celebrity of our time. _______________ 'This is the book for every woman trying to place their body on the map of consumption vs control, and every woman who wants to better understand her impulses. It left me much changed' - Lena Dunham 'I read these pages, breathless with recognition, and the thrill of reading a new voice telling it like it is' - Dani Shapiro 'Emily Ratajkowski's first essay collection needs to be read by everyone [...] both page-turning and moving as hell' - Amy Schumer 'A slow, complicated indictment of a profession and the people who propel it [...] it will deliver a more nuanced and introspective rendering of her interior than those who come to it with those surface interests might expect' - Vogue 'Dazzling' - Observer 'Ratajkowski brings nuanced insight to questions about empowerment versus commodification of women's bodies and sexuality. Blending cultural criticism and personal stories, My Body is smart and powerful' - Time Magazine 'Raw, nuanced and beautifully written. A moving and enlightening experience to join a woman openly exploring such deep parts of her physical self via the written word. A truly impressive debut' - Emma Gannon 'Excellent [...] Ratajkowski writes with curiosity, intellect and acute awareness' - Harper's Bazaar 'Superb [...] it feels revolutionary' - Telegraph 'I admire and envy her artistry' - Guardian _______________ Emily Ratajkowski is an acclaimed model and actress, an engaged political progressive, a formidable entrepreneur, a global social media phenomenon, and now, a writer. Rocketing to world fame at age twenty-one, Ratajkowski sparked both praise and furor with the provocative display of her body as an unapologetic statement of feminist empowerment. The subsequent evolution in her thinking about our culture's commodification of women is the subject of this book. My Body is a profoundly personal exploration of feminism, sexuality, and power, of men's treatment of women and women's rationalizations for accepting that treatment. These essays chronicle moments from Ratajkowski's life while investigating the culture's fetishization of girls and female beauty, its obsession with and contempt for women's sexuality, the perverse dynamics of the fashion and film industries, and the grey area between consent and abuse. Nuanced, unflinching, and incisive, My Body marks the debut of a fierce writer brimming with courage and intelligence.

Fist comes to us in the voice of artist Georgia O'Keeffe. In this chapbook, O'Keeffe offers readers details of her life-as an artist, as a wife to a man who both helped and harmed her, and as an older woman who found her spiritual home. Each poem is ekphrastic, written in response to pieces of her art; epistolic, in homage to the many letters she wrote during her lifetime; and persona, based on factual events and experiences. Fist is part of a trilogy of chapbooks written in the voices of three powerful and influential women: Mary, mother of Jesus, artist Georgia O'Keeffe, and chef and food activist Alice Waters.

The paintings which adorn the lower walls of the chapel at Eton College are arguably the most important surviving late-medieval murals in Northern Europe. Documented as having been painted between 1479 and 1487, they originally comprised some thirty-two scenes ranged in two registers on the chapel's north and south walls, recounting the miracles of the Virgin. Concealed for years with whitewash and panelling, it was not until the 1920s that the paintings were finally uncovered and their significance appreciated fully. This stunningly illustrated publication brings together the considerable body of recent research into these internationally important wall paintings, giving a comprehensive description and an account of their creation and patronage. It also includes a fascinating discussion on the Head Master's Chambers wall painting dated to around 1520 and discovered in 2005. AUTHOR: Emily Howe is wall paintings advisor to English Heritage and works closely with the Courtauld Institute's Department of Wall Painting. Henrietta McBurney is Keeper of Fine and Applied Arts at Eton College and was previously curator of Prints and Drawings at the Royal Collection, Windsor Castle. Professor David Park is Director of the Conservation of Wall Painting Department at the Courtauld Institute of Art. SELLING POINTS: *Wall Paintings of Eton combines known facts about the wall paintings with the findings of recently commissioned scientific analysis *This is the first book on these important works since M. R. James's seminal publication The Frescoes in the Chapel at Eton College published over 100 years ago ILLUSTRATIONS: 214 colour

Peter Bayer was seventy-three. He’d taught at the school just up the road for most of his life and, when the wall came down, saw no reason to move. Nobody could say life had been easy, and when it was built, he’d lost contact with many friends, but he’d learnt to enjoy life as best he could and had had the good fortune of a happy marriage to Elsa. It’s 2006. Peter Bayer and his wife, Elsa, live on the East side of Berlin, as they’ve always done, even when that wasn’t an attractive proposition. What limits Peter’s freedom nowadays isn’t a concrete wall but often feels like one. Elsa has dementia and barely recognises him, so his life is not only hard work, but it’s lonely. What makes it lonelier is that his wife’s illness has given her a distorted view of the past and one that would horrify the woman he married. When Helen, a recently widowed English woman, rents the flat Peter owns nearby, he experiences the kinds of conversations that used to be normal for him, which makes his current reality all the more painful. Helen’s come to Berlin to find out more about her husband’s past in the city and learns things from their German friends that she was unaware of when he was alive. During her struggle to come to terms with her present life, Helen sees that the terrible demands on Peter’s life are almost impossible to endure. Other stories in the book show the toll of war, as fear is passed from one generation to another and we see how the power of secrecy never disappears. They also reveal how gratitude can take various forms and how intergenerational friendships really are all they’re cracked up to be. The Writing on the Wall and Other Stories is a collection of tales, spanning the 1980s to the present day, that will appeal to fans of Anne Tyler, Alan Bennett and Alice Munro, whom Penny Edwards takes inspiration from.
