Essay from the year 2014 in the subject Psychology - Psychology of Religion, , language: English, abstract: As human beings we have the constant struggle of working, eating a balanced diet, exercising, having a social life, spending time with one’s family, staying current with today’s news and receiving at least eight hours of sleep. Our agendas are naturally stocked so there is no doubt that we all come across the evil seed that is stress, from time to time. Our bodies unburden stressful situations by releasing feelings of anxiety, tension and nervousness. We do not have to be doctors to know that these feelings are not the most beneficial regarding what is good for our bodies. In order to reduce, prevent and cope with these emotional reactions one can practice the stress relieving buddhist ritual of meditation. The two most common and useful types of meditation are Loving Kindness Meditation, known as Metta Bhavana, and Mindfulness of Breathing, known as Anapanasati (Vana 27). In this paper one will perceive an overview about the two most useful types of meditation mentioned previously, explore the benefits that come with regularly practicing meditation and read about different cases that prove the effects of this buddhist custom.

Social development over one's lifetime is a complex area that has received consider able attention in the psychological, social-psychological, and sociological literature over the years. Surprisingl~ however, since 1969, when Rand McNally published Goslin's Handbook of Socialization, no comprehensive statement of the field has appeared in book form. Given the impressive data in this area that have been adduced over the last two decades, we trust that our handbook will serve to fill that gap. In this volume we have followed a lifespan perspective, starting with the social interactions that transpire in the earliest development stages and progressing through childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and, finall~ one's senior years. In so doing we cover a variety of issues in depth. The book contains 21 chapters and is divided into five parts: I, Theoretical Perspectives; II, Infants and Toddlers; ill, Children and Adolescents; Iv, Adults; and V, The Elderly. Each of the parts begins with introductory material that reviews the overall issues to be considered. Many individuals have contributed to the final production of this handbook. Foremost are our eminent contributors, who graciously agreed to share with us their expertise. We also thank our administrative and technical staff for their assistance in carrying out the day-to-day tasks necessary to complete such a project. Finall~ we thank Eliot Werner, Executive Editor at Plenum, for his willingness to publish and for his tolerance for the delays inevitable in the development of a large handbook.

Authoritative Parenting written by Robert E. Larzelere and has been published by Amer Psychological Assn this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with Family & Relationships categories.

Psychologist Diana Baumrind's revolutionary prototype of parenting, called authoritative parenting, combines the best of various parenting styles. In contrast to previously advocated styles involving high responsiveness and low demandingness (i.e., permissive parenting) or low responsiveness and high demandingness (i.e., authoritarian parenting), authoritative parenting involves high levels of both responsiveness and demandingness. The result is an appropriate mix of warm nurturance and firm discipline. Decades of research have supported the prototype, and we now know that authoritative parenting fosters high achievement, emotional adjustment, self-reliance, and social confidence in children and adolescents. In this book, leading scholars update our thinking about authoritative parenting and address three unresolved issues: mechanisms of the style's effectiveness, variations of effectiveness across cultures, and untangling how parents influence children from how children influence them. By integrating perspectives from developmental and clinical psychology, the book will inform prevention and intervention efforts to help parents maximise their children's potential.
