Abstract: This book examines ten projects that represent new approaches to the mental health problems of children and youth. Each of the projects is described and analyzed as a case study - revealing how the new intervention took form, what contribution was expected from a collaborative relationship with a behavioral scientist, and what the actual experiences were in attempting to apply and disseminate knowledge arising from such a relationship. The collaborative-interactive relationship between the author and the project directors was termed "action-research".

Written by one of the leading figures in biosocial criminology and evolutionary psychology, this work explores the tight relationship between criminality and indiscriminate sexuality within the framework of life history theory. The underlying thesis is that traits associated with a strong libido, indiscriminately expressed, are intertwined with traits associated with criminal behavior; that is, excessive interest in sexual adventures pursued in an irresponsible way is undergirded by the same individual short- run hedonistic traits that define criminality. While traditional criminology tends to view sexual and criminal behavior as separate domains, many biosocial criminologists, evolutionary psychologists, neuroscientists, and behavioral and molecular geneticists are not at all surprised that a link exists between criminality and sexuality. Research shows that the statistical relationship between indiscriminate sexuality and criminal behavior is stronger than for most other variables associated with crime, although most studies dealing with this relationship are from outside the dominant environmentalist paradigm of criminology. Using life history theory as the theoretical umbrella for exploring the relationship between indiscriminate sexuality and criminal behavior, the book explores how and why criminal behavior is related to hypersexuality. Life history theory, which has a long and fruitful history of use among evolutionary biologists who use it to investigate the relationship between mating strategies and the environment among various species of animals (including humans) is particularly suited to understanding how an exclusive focus on mating effort is related to criminal behavior. This book will be of interest to scholars and students in criminology, psychology, and sociology, and anyone interested in examining the interconnection between biological, psychological, and socio- environmental factors in relation to criminal behavior.

This book examines how map-based collaboration software can facilitate negotiations in areas undergoing contentious pressures for significant change. Based on case studies from Israel, it aims to introduce a useful model of planning implementation as an outcome of complex interaction to reduce the gap between planning and urban reality. It puts an analytical realist foundation for a productive discussion of the role of future planning and bares meaningful scientific contributions to the general frame of the negotiating process and implementation, which still needs further research and elaboration. Geodesign, a cutting-edge planning approach that is rooted in the history of planning practice, has become one of the most popular approaches for sustainable planning and design activities after 2000s. Planners tend to think of design at a site scale, but geodesign covers a variety of scales, bridging the gap between the regional and the local contexts. This is important because to be practically effective and politically prudent, "smart growth" plans need to make sense across a spectrum of scales and disciplines. This ranges from design, urban design, community planning, town and city planning, and regional planning, up to planning for mega-regions.

In this book Kate Tchanturia brings together international experts from the field of eating disorders to discuss the effectiveness of cognitive remediation therapy for treating anorexia nervosa, and keeping patients in therapy. This book presents research focussing on: - individual therapy with adults - family-based therapy - CRT with young people - group format of CRT - adapting interventions for people with co-morbidities - clinicians experiences working with CRT Illustrated throughout with case studies, and integrating neuropsychological testing and brain imaging this book discusses the latest research on this novel treatment approach. It will be key reading for researchers and academics in the eating disorders field wanting to trial the approach, as well as final year undergraduates and postgraduate clinical psychology students looking for a new perspective.
