Uno recorre el pensamiento de Octavio Paz sobre la poesía, desde sus primeros textos en la revista Taller hasta Los hijos del limo, pasando por El arco y la lira. El otro sigue la travesía de la narrativa de Juan Rulfo hasta el desmoronamiento de Pedro Páramo al final de una vida hecha de tierra y de símbolos. Los caminos de estas obras, que están entre las más altas de la literatura mexicana del siglo XX, se cruzan en un lugar inusitado: la paternidad. Un conflicto mortal definió, desde el principio, la búsqueda de un origen y de una identidad en la reflexión poética de Paz. Fue una tarea dramática, contradictoria y destructiva, en la que el poeta intentó con desesperación ser el padre de sí mismo. Y en eso se pareció a ese personaje ineludible de la imaginación narrativa que es Pedro Páramo. En el mismo nombre de este padre paradójico está su vocación de símbolo y su condición desértica. El segundo ensayo de este libro sólo aspira a seguir de cerca las huellas de ese camino empredrado de palabras que construyó magistralmente Juan Rulfo. La paternidad como sombra en la vida de un poeta y como tiempo en la de un personaje es el nudo donde se encuentran y dialogan estos ensayos.

Blanco analyse la figure du théologien dans l'œuvre de Borges, notamment dans son rapport avec l'image de l'auteur. L'érudition borgésienne est ici abordée du point de vue de la réception par A. Louis. Les dimensions poétique et politique de El Hacedor sont envisagées respectivement par I. Salazar et par Ch. Larrue. R. Béhar revisite la présence de Franz Kafka dans la fiction borgésienne, revenant sur les modes spécifiques de cet hommage. Enfin, M. Covindassamy illustre la productivité toujours actuelle de l'écriture de Borges telle qu'on peut la constater chez W. G. Sebald. Ce livre met en évidence la puissance de l'écriture borgésienne et de ses conceptions, en particulier de la lecture comme fondement de la création littéraire.
