After centuries of colonialism and imperialism, many indigenous knowledge systems have been purposefully disregarded and forgotten, to the point that the vast majority of the public, but specifically researchers, are completely unaware of their existence. By utilizing these systems in conjunction with action learning and action research, it can be possible to garner perspective and influence from all types of people regardless of their social or economic standing in working towards an inclusive and prosperous global society. Enabling Indigenous Knowledge Systems in Action Research and Action Learning encourages researchers the world over to apply Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) using Action Research and/or Action Learning (AR/AL) approaches in their fields of specialization. The AR/AL framework, approaches and methodologies cut across almost all field of studies. Covering topics such as action research and learning, coloniality, and professional development, this book is an excellent resource for researchers, academicians, educators, pre-service teachers, sociologists, and more.

This open access book presents a strong philosophical, theoretical and practical argument for the mainstreaming of indigenous knowledge in curricula development, and in teaching and learning across the African continent. Since the dawn of political independence in Africa, there has been an ongoing search for the kind of education that will create a class of principled and innovative citizens who are sensitive to and committed to the needs of the continent. When indigenous or environment-generated knowledge forms the basis of learning in classrooms, learners are able to immediately connect their education with their lived reality. The result is much introspection, creativity and innovation across fields, sectors and disciplines, leading to societal transformation. Drawing on several theoretical assertions, examples from a wide range of disciplines, and experiences gathered from different continents at different points in history, the book establishes that for education to trigger the necessary transformation in Africa, it should be constructed on a strong foundation of learners’ indigenous knowledge. The book presents a distinct and uncharted pathway for Africa to advance sustainably through home-grown and grassroots based ideas, leading to advances in science and technology, growth of indigenous African business and the transformation of Africans into conscious and active participants in the continent’s progress. Indigenous Knowledge and Education in Africa is of interest to educators, entrepreneurs, policymakers, researchers and individuals engaged in finding sustainable and strategic solutions to regional and global advancement.

For most people, the main point of access to the health system is through primary health care (PHC). The fundamental premise of primary health care is that all people, everywhere, have the right to receive the appropriate care in their community. Primary health care attends to the majority of a person’s health needs throughout their lifetime, including physical, mental and social wellbeing. PHC is people-centred rather than disease-centred. It is a whole-of-society approach that includes health promotion, disease prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and palliative care. Primary health care and continuous quality improvement: An evidence-based guide provides an accessible contemporary guide on implementing continuous quality improvement (CQI) in PHC settings. The authors draw together two decades of practical experience and established leadership in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health in Australia to provide guidance for health services and their staff, policymakers, researchers, funders and support organisations in an international context. Primary health care and continuous quality improvement provides an in-depth understanding of how CQI can be used to strengthen health systems by: identifying core concepts underpinning CQI in PHC and how CQI can improve health care quality, health equity and population health; explaining how CQI data is used in a comprehensive approach to PHC to measure quality, and how data is generated and used for improving care; describing CQI tools and techniques used by PHC teams; offering guidance in interpreting data and addressing variation in care quality; providing case studies in maternal health, children’s health, mental health and other areas, to describe the application of CQI to improve clinical care; guiding practitioners on how to collaborate and build data systems for CQI, and strengthen links between communities and PHC services. Continuous quality improvement is everybody’s business, and Primary health care and continuous quality improvement explains the strategic use of CQI at different levels of the health system and across sectors to achieve and sustain large-scale health improvement.

Literacy Policies For Equity And Inclusion written by Gatcho, Al Ryanne Gabonada and has been published by IGI Global this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-02-26 with Education categories.

Policies play a pivotal role in shaping literacy outcomes by setting educational standards, allocating resources, and defining instructional methodologies that influence how literacy is taught and assessed across different educational contexts. However, the dynamic nature of society necessitates the constant revisitation of these policies to adapt to evolving technological advancements, cultural shifts, and emerging pedagogical research. Without such continual reassessment, policies risk becoming outdated and ineffective in addressing contemporary literacy challenges. Furthermore, integrating the perspectives of various policy actors can lead to more comprehensive and effective literacy policies. By embracing this inclusive approach to policy development and revision, education systems can enhance their ability to support diverse learning needs and improve overall literacy skills for all students. Literacy Policies for Equity and Inclusion investigates the growing debates and pressing issues surrounding the (re)creation, implementation, and evaluation of various literacy policies. It explores the perspectives and experiences of different stakeholders regarding existing literacy policies, effective policies for addressing or mitigating literacy disparities in different environments, and how new or revised literacy policies can be effectively integrated into educational systems to produce tangible improvements. Covering topics such as gender sensitivity, discipline literacy, and 19th century English literature, this book is an excellent resource for educators, school administrators, policymakers, social justice advocates, professionals, researchers, scholars, academicians, and more.
