After a near-death experience when locating a strangling victim, psychic police consultant Madeleine Stephens is content to keep to herself and redecorate her new house. The community of Hillendale, Wisconsin has been quiet, but the spring weather brings out the neighbors, who want to learn more about her and her knack for finding things that are lost. When Deputy Kyle Jakes and his K-9 approach her to help find a missing person, Madeleine is hesitant--particularly if the woman might have had a fatal accident--not to mention she wiped Kyle's memory of their first encounter before he could reject her. But finding missing persons is what she does--her gift--and the possibility the current missing woman is in danger is low. Needing to ease back into her skills, she accepts the case, but avoids Kyle to prevent shaking loose the memory of their interlude. After Madeleine's initial consult, the missing woman is found, but goes missing a second time. Madeleine teams up with Kyle, whose repressed memory isn't buried as deeply as she'd hoped. They struggle with trust issues while they pursue leads, but Kyle isn't the only one who recovers a hidden memory. When reviewing the vision that hospitalized her, Madeleine inadvertently reveals herself to the strangler. She must trust Kyle to keep her safe, while keeping him safe at the same time.

Miola's edited work also features a comprehensive critical history, coupled with a full bibliography and photographs of major productions of the play from around the world. In the collection, there are five previously unpublished essays. The topics covered in these new essays are women in the play, the play's debt to contemporary theater, its critical and performance histories in Germany and Japan, the metrical variety of the play, and the distinctly modern perspective on the play as containing dark and disturbing elements. To compliment these new essays, the collection features significant scholarship and commentary on The Comedy of Errors that is published in obscure and difficulty accessible journals, newspapers, and other sources. This collection brings together these essays for the first time.

Enchanted Dulcinea written by Angelina Muñiz-Huberman and has been published by Rowman & Littlefield this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-03-17 with Religion categories.

In this English translation of the 1993 Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize winner Dulcinea encantada (1992) by Mexican author Angelina Muñiz-Huberman, Dulcinea travels in a car writing novels in her mind about several Dulcineas: a medieval princess on a quest, a nineteenth-century lady-in-waiting in Mexico, and a twentieth-century young woman who was sent to Russia as a girl to escape the Spanish Civil War and later journeys to Mexico to reunite with her parents. Unsure of her identity, Dulcinea remembers, debates, and records memories of her exile. As she circles Mexico City, she examines the role of memory, speech, and writing through her fragmented narrative voice. Dulcinea explores her place in the world through storytelling, blurring the line between reality and imagination. This novel pairs a lyrical and contemplative style with experimental writing to present common themes of identity formation and exile in a unique form. Dulcinea’s quest is also one of spiritual connection with apocalyptic and mystical overtones. With allusions to both Christian and Jewish mystical traditions, this novel reveals a crypto-Jewish presence typical of Muñiz-Huberman’s writing, forming part of a Sephardic literary tradition. This edition includes an introduction and annotations by the translator, Rebecca Marquis.

While the memorialization of slavery has generated an impressive number of publications, relatively few studies deal with this subject from a transnational, transdisciplinary and transracial standpoint. As a historical phenomenon that crossed borders and traversed national communities and ethnic groups producing alliances that did not overlap with received identities, slavery as well as its memory call for comparative investigations that may bring to light aspects obscured by the predominant visibility of US-American and British narratives of the past. This study addresses the memory of slavery from a transnational perspective. It brings into dialogue texts and practices from the transatlantic world, offering comparative analyses which interlace the variety of memories emerging in diverse national contexts and fields of study and shed light on the ways local countermemories have interacted with and responded to hegemonic narratives of slavery. The inclusion of Brazil and the French, English, and Spanish Caribbean alongside the United States and Europe, and the variety of investigative approaches-ranging from cinema, popular culture and visual culture studies to anthropology and literary studies-expand the current understanding of the slave past and how it is reimagined today. This fascinating book brings freshness to the topic by considering objects of investigation which have so far remained marginal in the academic debate, such as heroic memorials, civic landscape, white family sagas, Young Adult literature of slavery, Latin American telenovelas and filmic narrations within and beyond Hollywood. What emerges is a multifarious set of memories, which keep changing according to generation, race, gender, nation and political urgency and indicate the advancing of a dynamic, mobilized memorialization of slavery willing to move beyond mourning towards a more militant stand for justice. This is an important book for those interested in African American, American, and Latin American studies and working across literature, cinema, visual arts, and public culture. It will also be useful to public official and civil servants interested in the question of slavery and its present memory.

A Gift written by Grace B. Eleazar and has been published by AuthorHouse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-10-16 with Poetry categories.

This book of poetry says it all. A Gift is divided into four sections, and each section has poems that fit the flavor of that section. The “gift” comes in the insight that accompanies each poem. There is nothing preachy here—just a deep reflective sharing. In “Nature’s Ways,” the first section, you can feel her love for nature. It is this love of the environment that is one of our key resonances. She shares her life lessons interwoven with the tapestry of nature. Part two is “Love Principles.” I am an incurable romantic. My heart soars when someone receives so deeply and gives so profoundly. She is nuanced in her relationships and has a quite profound affinity for cosmic forces. Part three is “The Past.” In this section one has a sense of her soul traveling through life, her aspirations, and her relationships. One feels the intensity in which she lives life, the depths of her giving, and her capacity for love. Part four, “Life Principles,” is exactly that. One can feel the prisms in which she captures life. Nuanced in and out, this section offers the wisdom of perception and reflection. Old Soul. Grace Eleazar is an old soul, as is evident in her reflections on life and her longings. One senses the maturity of a well-traveled soul that has learned to take life without pettiness or bitterness but goes deep despite whatever pain its lessons offer. The Gift. This is such an appropriate title for a book wherein the author bestows gifts for life itself. On every page and in every line, she gives of herself in the honesty of her sharing. One can live life and then go on, or one can live life and make that life a gift. This is in essence what The Gift is about. It is my honor to be the author’s friend.
