Encountering The Rest Of God written by Henry Sturcke and has been published by Tvz - Theologischer Verlag Zurich this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Bible categories.

perplexing aspect of early Christianity is the rapid and widespread abandonment of the practice of rest on Sabbath, as in the Jewish matrix of the Christian movement, even though the seven-day week was retained for time-keeping purposes. It is beyond dispute that this occurred, but there is no unanimity on the question of how and why. There is no passage in the sources which offers an explicit answer. The author uses the classic tools of the historical-critical method, supplemented by newer approaches, for a thorough exegetical examination of the relevant passages in the New Testament and other Christian writings of the time. The investigation demonstrates that previous models to explain the rapid disappearance of the Sabbath as a Christian worship practice have been inadequate. A more nuanced, polycausal model is proposed. This sheds light on unity and diversity in the Christian movement as it began its development from a sect within Judaism to a faith community with its own identity. Henry Sturcke, Dr. theol. , Jahrgang 1948, ist Pfarrer in Muri (Kanton Aargau) und versieht Lehrauftrage an der Hochschule fur Musik und Theater sowie an der Universitat in Zurich.

Encountering God Through The Church written by Wade Rutland Howell Jr. and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-02-21 with Religion categories.

In this thought-provoking examination of how people encounter God, Wade Howell examines the way humans come in contact with the divine. Howell presents a biblical, theological, and philosophical case for why people, who are physical, can have a relationship with God, who is spirit. With an emphasis on centrality of the local church, Howell demonstrates how God designed the church to satisfy the most intimate human needs, which God placed in humans so he could be the source of their fulfillment. With a heart for people and a love for God's church, Howell echoes Augustine in showing why our soul is restless until it finds rest in God through his church.

The Bible is God's love letter to us, providing many guiding principles for living life the way God intended. In Encountering God in Genesis, author Brenda Frost examines this special book in which we learn many things about God as He interacts with and reveals Himself to His creation. Presenting a Bible study organized into eleven weeks with five days of studies, Encountering God in Genesis provides deeper insight through: observation, asking questions based on the text being studied; correlation, looking at other texts in the Bible that cover similar topics; commentary, providing deep discussion of each idea; vocabulary, explaining the meaning of important words; and application, posing questions that apply what's been studied to our daily lives. Filled with rich lessons, the book of Genesis is quoted or referred to more than one hundred times in the New Testament and by Jesus Himself. We are always searching for things to do in order to draw God nearer to us, when all that is really needed is to become still before Him. In an age of technological commotion and striving to succeed, few of us see how busy we really are. It has been said, "Busyness is not of the devil; busyness is the devil." Will you become one of those who discover the treasure of stillness? Will you take the challenge and rise from the ashes with a new heart, a new spirit, renewed strength, renewed passion, and a new purpose for living? Join the author as he retells the story of his life-changing experience on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Are you weary from all the noise? Are you languishing spiritually? He still speaks to the weary, heavy laden, hungry and thirsty. Come and sit a spell. Be still and know that He is God. Each chapter shares real-life examples, is rooted in the Bible, and includes prayer exercises for individuals or groups. This is a sourcebook for prayer, not a simple to-do list. Amy is a storyteller that brings these proven practices to life so you can make them immediately actionable. This is a great resource for your retreat, prayer group, or book club. Prayer is a gift from God; praying is a practice. We are always a simple word or single step away from a conversation with God. And yet taking that step or saying that word can sometimes feel confounding. This book draws from the deep well of Christian history to make praying a habit to enjoy in our crazy, bustling, wearying times. With seven ways of approaching prayer and practical examples of those ways to pray, you will find yourself regularly and repeatedly turning to God and finding him happy to hear from you.
