Experience the morning homilies of Pope Francis and witness how he continues to change the life of the Catholic Church. Shortly after seven in the morning, Pope Francis gives a brief homily in the little Vatican chapel of Saint Martha, in front of an audience that is always different: gardeners, office workers, nuns and priests, as well as a growing group of journalists. It is a set appointment, and in some ways a revolutionary innovation, where a pope speaks to everyone, off the cuff, without any written text, as he would have done as a parish priest. Encountering Truth is a collection of highlights from these homilies from March 2013 to May 2014. Along with summaries by Radio Vaticana (who recorded and transcribed the homilies) and commentary by Father Antonio Spadaro, SJ, these reflections provide moments of inspiration, simplicity, and a glimpse into the papal world very few ever get to experience.

For many of Christians, no matter how many church services we attend, podcasts we listen to, or conferences we sign up for, we often feel a deep sense of emptiness or void in our relationships with Jesus. Feelings of being orphaned by God, divorced from His family, and enslaved to our sins, consume our hearts. We do everything we can to try and fill our spiritual emptiness, but nothing seems to change. Despite our best efforts to apply what we are learning from our daily Bible readings and church’s weekly sermons, what we “know” in theory rarely becomes what we encounter on a day to day basis. Because of this, our relationships with Jesus are in desperate need of rejuvenation. In John 16:13, Jesus says, “When the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you into all truth.”. Within this passage, Jesus teaches his followers that it is by the guiding work of the Holy Spirit that we will encounter the truths of God’s Word that brings us life. The Spirit will be the active agent in guiding our hearts to God's loving truths for our lives. Therefore, Spirit-Filled Truth speaks to the longing many Christians have to encounter God’s truths for themselves, and how His presence alone can satisfy their deepest needs by means of: - Unveiling who the Spirit of Truth is, and our need for His guidance in our lives. - Illustrating how to walk in our identity as adopted children of God. - Revealing how to actively be a part of God’s family. - Displaying how to be used as effective ambassadors for His Kingdom.

A crucial responsibility for Christian interpreters of Scripture, says Richard Bauckham, is to understand our contemporary context and to explore the Bible's relevance to it in ways that reflect serious critical engagement with that context. In this book Bauckham models how this task can be carried out. Bauckham calls for our reading of Scripture to lead us to greater engagement with critical issues in today's world, including globalization, environmental degradation, and widespread poverty. He works to bring biblical texts to bear on these contemporary realities through the Bible's metanarrative of God and the world, according to which God's purpose takes effect in the blessing and salvation and fulfillment of the world as his cherished creation.

Phenomenology And The Post Secular Turn written by Michael Staudigl and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-10-05 with Philosophy categories.

Are we living in a ‘post-secular age’, and can phenomenology help us better understand the discontents of secularism? From Habermas’ claim that the secular hypothesis has failed for democratic reasons to the fact that religion, far from its predicted dwindling, is as strong as ever (or even stronger than before), some have concluded that secularism as we know it is over. Others have questioned whether we have ever truly been secular, if the concept applies only to European societies, or whether the very notion of religiosity is merely a weapon of pacification in the hands of Western universalism. The post-secular notion thus lingers between sociological fact and philosophical theory, and it is the latter that we need to investigate if we want to confront the challenges that any ‘return of religion’ entails. Although phenomenology has furnished manifold devices to rethink religious experience in a post-metaphysical way, its investigations often remain individualistic and beholden to unproductive dichotomies. This volume assembles investigations into secularism’s discontents by addressing religion’s role in forming the fabric of contemporary societies and unveiling new constellations of faith and reason beyond many beloved modernist dichotomies (e.g. theism/atheism, myth/Enlightenment, fundamentalism/tolerance) that often go under-investigated. This book was originally published as a special issue of the International Journal of Philosophical Studies.

Since being elected to the Chair of St. Peter on March 13, 2013, Pope Francis has given unique shape to the meaning of the new evangelization. With his emphasis on the concept of encounter, and his stunning expression of pastoral ministry in Evangelii gaudium, the present pontiff has breathed new life into the Christian vocation to evangelize. This book brings together the voices of fifteen American Catholic scholars around the theme of Pope Francis and the Event of Encounter. Inaugurating the new series, Global Perspectives on the New Evangelization, this book incorporates a variety of approaches and questions in order to amplify the theology behind the pontificate of Pope Francis and the most recent developments in the new evangelization. Among the topics treated in the book are mercy, ecology, doctrine, culture, and the life and ministry of Jorge Mario Bergoglio. The reader will be delighted with an array of perspectives that promise to give inspiration for embarking on further frontiers of the new evangelization.
