Let's face it: we all need encouragement to pray. So many things can impede our pursuit of God through prayer that we feel like giving up. In Encouraged to Pray, Charles Haddon Spurgeon's faithful expositions of Scripture will provide the push and traction you need to move forward in joyful and effective prayer. Here is a glimpse of four precious jewels Spurgeon mined from the quarry of prayer:1. If you struggle getting started in prayer, read the Bible first and respond to what God says. "If the flesh in its weakness hampers the spirit, then let the Bible reading come before the praying, that the soul may be awakened thereby."2. God, our all-powerful heavenly Father, is able and willing to grant our requests."Do you always remember, beloved, in coming to the mercy-seat, that you are coming to a King, and to One who gives like a King? Do you always open your mouth wide, and ask great things of the King who is so ready to bestow them upon you?"3. Our gracious Father doesn't need eloquent prayers to hear the cries of His children."A mother can translate baby-talk: she comprehends incomprehensible noises. Even so doth our Father in heaven know all about our poor baby talk, for our prayer is not much better."4. When we don't feel like praying, pray for help."Not to pray because you do not feel fit to pray is like saying, 'I will not take medicine because I am too ill.' Pray for prayer: pray yourself, by the Spirit's assistance, into a praying frame."Much more can be said about how Spurgeon's sermons will encourage you to pray, but I'll just invite you to read this book for yourself. You'll not only learn how to pray to God effectively and with great joy, you'll be encouraged to pray.

**A never before released volume from the Prince of Preachers on the Person and Work of the Holy Spirit** "In our day a biblical understanding of the Spirit's work is sorely needed. Confusion about who He is and what He does abounds, and too often we proceed through life relying on our power rather than His. Many contemporary works about the Holy Spirit are focused solely on either promoting or refuting the excesses of the extreme charismatic movement, and so there is a need to examine what Scripture has to say on the subject from a different vantage point. Spurgeon's sermons provide just such a vantage point. They are at once timeless expositions of the truth of God's Word and timely exhortations for the church to give proper, biblical focus on the person of the Holy Spirit."--From the Foreword by Clay Kraby Table of Contents1. Pentecostal Wind and Fire 2. The Sealing of the Spirit 3. The Spirit of Bondage and Adoption 4. The Power of the Holy Ghost 5. The Comforter 6. The Superlative Excellence of the Holy Spirit 7. The Holy Spirit's Threefold Conviction of Men 8. The Holy Ghost -- The Great Teacher 9. The Holy Spirit's Chief Office 10. Here is a collection of sermons on the subject of prayer by one of the most beloved preachers in the history of the English-speaking world. Spurgeon was popular in the most fundamental sense of the word in that he was "of the people." He began selling his sermons early in his career, and they have been published in many formats over the last century and a half. This edition presents the sermons in a re-typeset and redesigned modern, easy-to-read format. Selected from over 3,500 sermons, this volume features Spurgeon's preaching on praying: the personal life of prayer, as well as prayers of the Bible and the prayers of Christ. The focus is on praying, not prayer, in the sense that praying is an action and not an abstraction. Spurgeon preaches about how praying is a key component of a righteous life, about the work of prayer in the life of a Christian, about examples of prayer found in the Scriptures, and about the pray-ers: the saints whose examples can teach us about prayer.

Let Us Pray is a message of meditation based on the Bible and written by one of the most important Christian writers of all time. A devotional message of faith and hope for you. Charles Haddon (CH) Spurgeon,19 June 1834 - 31 January 1892) was a British Particular Baptist preacher. Spurgeon remains highly influential among Christians of various denominations, among whom he is known as the "Prince of Preachers". He was a strong figure in the Reformed Baptist , defending the Church in agreement with the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith understanding, and opposing the liberal and pragmatic theological tendencies in the Church of his day. It is estimated that in his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to around 10,000,000 people,Spurgeon was the pastor of the congregation of the New Park Street Chapel (later the Metropolitan Tabernacle) in London for 38 years. He was part of several controversies with the Baptist Union of Great Britain and later had to leave the denomination. In 1867, he started a charity organisation which is now called Spurgeon's and works globally. He also founded Spurgeon's College, which was named after him posthumously. Spurgeon was a prolific author of many types of works including sermons, an autobiography, commentaries, books on prayer, devotionals, magazines, poetry, hymns and more. Many sermons were transcribed as he spoke and were translated into many languages during his lifetime. Spurgeon produced powerful sermons of penetrating thought and precise exposition. His oratory skills held his listeners spellbound in the Metropolitan Tabernacle and many Christians have discovered Spurgeon's messages to be among the best in Christian literature.
