The scientific disciplines of hydrology and hydrogeology are expanding as the Earth's water is being recognized by governments and individuals as a shrinking resource—no entity can afford to take water for granted. At the present time, there is no single reference source for definitions. The Encyclopedic Dictionary of Hydrogeology is a practical, comprehensive reference guide with complete definitions of terms in hydrogeology and other fields closely related to water practices. This concise reference not only defines terms and concepts, but also provides a clear explanation of key elements so that an in-depth understanding of processes may be obtained. - With more than 2,000 entries, from "absolute permeability" to the "Z-R relationship", this dictionary features the most up-to-date vocabulary in hydrology and hydrogeology. This dictionary would be of use to practicing scientists and professionals in all the fields of water science - More than 340 graphs, tables and diagrams complement the entries in order to clarify terms, methods, or processes - Essential reference for students, academics, consultants, and practitioners in hydrology, hydrogeology, environmental engineering, environmental law, and the government

Hard Rock Hydraulics written by Fernando Olavo Franciss and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-02-23 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Hard rock hydraulics concerns arrangements of adjoining intact rock blocks, occurring down to a depth of hundreds of meters, where groundwater percolates within the gaps between these blocks. During the last decades, technical papers related to successful or failed attempts for mining groundwater from hard rocks, and achievements or failures of public or mining developments with respect to these rocks, increased the knowledge of their hydraulics. Examples of activities where the mechanical behavior of these rocks highly interacts with their hydraulics are projects under the sea or groundwater level, such as open pits or underground mines, galleries, tunnels, shafts, underground hydropower plants, oil and LPG storage caverns, and deep disposal of hazardous waste. This book dedicated to hard rock hydraulics assumes some prior knowledge of hydraulics, geology, hydrogeology, and soil and rock mechanics. Chapter I discusses the main issues of modeling; chapter II covers the fundamentals of hard rock hydraulics; chapter III presents concepts regarding approximate solutions; chapter IV discusses data analysis for groundwater modeling; chapter V focuses on finite differences and chapter VI provides examples of some particular unusual applications. This book will help civil and mining engineers and also geologists to solve their practical problems in hydrogeology and public or mining projects.

"Ideas and concepts in sedimentology are changing rapidly, but field work and data collection remain the basis of the science. This book is intended as a guide to the recognition and description of sedimentary rocks in the field. It aims to help students and professional geologists know what to observe and record, and how best to interpret this data. The emphasis is on illustrating the principal types of sedimentary rocks, which is accomplished through more than 450 color photos and explanatory drawings. The introductory chapter defines the main types of sedimentary rocks, their classification, and their economic significance. The author then goes on to describe standard field techniques and provides a comprehensive summary of the principal characteristics of sedimentary rocks. Additional chapters cover each of the main rock types and describe how to interpret rocks and their features in terms of depositional environments." "This book is an ideal field companion for undergraduate and graduate students of geology, environmental sciences, hydrogeology, oceanography, and more. Professionals in petroleum geology and resource management, as well as budding geologists, will also find this to be an indispensable reference."--BOOK JACKET.
