This book documents and chronicles current research and initiatives, and growing knowledge base about well-being, in a Singapore context. In Singapore, the well-being of children and youth has been the subject of research and policy efforts. This is reflective of global and national concerns on the care of the young and those at risk of maladaptive outcomes, the nurturing of emotional health and resilience, and development of social and psychological resources. The chapters present a brief yet comprehensive summary of current insights on the well-being of children, adolescents, teachers, parents, and caregivers within the context of Singapore. This book highlights important issues and gaps in research related to the well-being of children and adolescents that are also relevant to the global community. It also provides recommendations for future directions that will be useful to researchers, policymakers, practitioners, parents, and other key stakeholders.

Children and young people who are looked after are among the most socially excluded of all young people. They are reported to have greater health needs than their peers, yet are less likely to receive adequate health care and treatment, or be supported in developing their knowledge and skills in making decisions that promote health and well-being. The National Healthy Care Standard is a national programme to promote the health and well-being of looked after children and young people. Healthy Care is a guidance document for the Standard. It summarises key national and international research and existing best practice; builds an evidence base for promoting the health and well-being of looked after children and young people; sets out current standards and guidance in England; provides health promotion models for the development of future practice.

Increasing numbers of evidence-based interventions have proven effective in preventing and treating behavioral disorders in children. However, the adoption of these interventions in the health care system and other systems that affect the lives of children has been slow. Moreover, with few exceptions, current training in many fields that involve the behavioral health of children falls short of meeting the needs that exist. In general, this training fails to recognize that behavioral health disorders are among the largest challenges in child health and that changing cognitive, affective, and behavioral health outcomes for children will require new and more integrated forms of care at a population level in the United States. To examine the need for workforce development across the range of health care professions working with children and families, as well as to identify innovative training models and levers to enhance training, the Forum on Promoting Children's Cognitive, Affective, and Behavioral Health held a workshop in November 2016. Workshop panelists and participants discussed the needs for workforce development across the range of health care professions working with children, youth, and families, and identified innovative training models and levers for change to enhance training. This publication summarizes the presentations and discussions from the workshop.

This book comprehensively reviews mindfulness-based interventions for specific areas of functioning in children and adolescents, with refreshing insights and perspectives. Based on a solid foundation of research and practice, it presents the nature of mindfulness, examines the psychological processes that may underlie mindfulness, and explores how to assess it. Mindfulness is about how we can be attentive to and present for everything that happens in our daily lives. This book draws upon current research in the field in order to explore topics such as the fundamentals of teaching mindfulness to children and adolescents; assessment of mindfulness in this population; use of mindfulness in educational settings; and clinical applications in mental health, including substance abuse, hyperactivity, and intellectual and developmental disabilities. With contributions from internationally-renowned clinicians and scholars, this book provides a balanced account of the strengths and weaknesses of current research, and how mindfulness-based programs can be used to enhance wellbeing and reduce suffering. This book will be of great interest for academics, scholars and post graduate students involved in the study of the mental health of children and adolescents. Promoting Young People S Wellbeing Through Empowerment And Agency written by Lucy Maynard and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-08 with Medical categories.

The terms ‘wellbeing’, ‘empowerment’ and ‘agency’ are common parlance in policy and practice with children, young people and families (CYPF), yet are often misused or not fully understood. Further, there is a disconnect between these abstract concepts and tangible practice with CYPF. This book bridges the theory-practice divide, offering a clear and definitive guide to concepts and practical ways to develop CYPF wellbeing. It examines the concept of wellbeing and its intrinsic relationship to social justice both theoretically and through case study material, and locates these practices within critical pedagogy. The book highlights a range of practice with CYPF of various ages, in formal and non-formal learning situations, engaged in a range of different programmes including learning, reduction from offending, social action and tackling targeted needs. Each chapter highlights relevant policy, research and practice examples to ensure that the book is relevant to a variety of readers. This book will benefit students and practitioners who work with young people to realise wellbeing and to embed critical pedagogy in their practice. It also provides a frame of reference to critically engage in policy analysis and is essential reading for social workers, teachers, police support officers and anyone working to support CYPF to become empowered.
