Spiritual Care In Everyday Nursing Practice written by Janice Clarke and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-05-31 with Medical categories.

As changes in technology, policy and management put an increasing emphasis on processes and procedures in nursing and health care, how do we continue to make room for compassion, the ancient human value that calls most nurses to the profession? In Spiritual Care in Everyday Nursing Practice, Janice Clarke argues that it is compassionate care of the whole person, body and soul, which is at the heart of nursing practice that values the individual and respects their dignity. Rather than seeing spiritual care as an addition to what nurses already do, this new approach considers it a natural part of compassionate care which doesn't present the nurse with an extra ambiguous burden to deal with. Providing a brief historical introduction to the concept of spirituality, Clarke examines the ways in which our spiritual life – a source of strength and meaning – can be influenced by factors such as age, illness and suffering, and mental illness, as well as our religious beliefs. Providing a practical guide to talking about and working with spirituality, she explores how nurses might imbue all their practice including the physical aspects of care – from use of touch to helping patients to move, bathe and eat – with an attention to spiritual needs. A timely, accessible and practical introduction to a concept that is under-explored in contemporary nursing literature, this book will be of great value to students and professionals alike.

Spiritual Dimensions Of Advanced Practice Nursing written by Melanie Rogers and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-10-15 with Medical categories.

This book recognises the challenges associated with the concept of spirituality. An awareness of this concept is integral to the provision of person-centred holistic care. However, APNs ability to provide spiritual care is often impeded by time pressures and the prioritisation of clinical tasks. Confusion about the meaning of spiritually and its relationship to religion compound the challenges involved in providing spiritual care leaving APNs feeling ill-equipped to address this area of care. Indeed many APNs view spirituality as synonymous with religion. This book provides clarity with the assumption that spirituality is innate to all of our patients and is related to what gives them hope, meaning and purpose. Fundamentally it is about being human. APNs ability to practice with kindness, compassion and empathy will naturally resonate with spiritually competent practice. It begins with an outline of the definitions of spirituality in addition to the concept of spiritually competent practice. An emphasis on the importance of personal development follows. Case studies from countries across the globe illustrate the benefit of integrating spirituality and provide evidence of the importance and relevance of integrating spirituality into practice. These include discussion and presentations of the related concepts of availability and vulnerability which will give APNs more confidence and competence to integrate spirituality into practice. This book is relevant for APNs, students, educators and researchers.

Midwives work in close contact with and address the diverse needs of women and men during one of the most critical life's transitions, preconception, pregnancy, childbirth and early parenting and its long term implications on the psychosocial, emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing of parents and infants. The chapters cover the transition and preparation for parenthood, midwives and parental-fetal-tie in pregnancy, perinatal mental health, maternal well-being, infertility, repeated loss and surrogacy, supporting early parenting following preterm birth, adolescent pregnancy and early parenthood, social challenges and parenthood including drug and alcohol use in pregnancy, intimate partners’ violence, migrants and transition to parenthood, fathers’ transition to parenthood, diversity of family formation - LGBTQ+ parents, breastfeeding, the role of spirituality during pregnancy, and midwifery and parenthood. Each person is unique and so is the response to parenthood, as the mother, father and family embark on this new lifeworld, a lifelong commitment. The book is a compendium of contemporary research depicting the strengths, opportunities, and recommendations how midwives and other health care professionals can nurture optimal, compassionate, respectful person- and family-centred care during pregnancy and early parenting, the transition to parenthood.

Problem: Spiritual care is recognized as an essential component of holistic nursing care that should be provided to all patients and is linked to improved health outcomes, quality of life, patient satisfaction, and coping. Despite the acknowledgement of spiritual care as a requisite of quality nursing practice, it is rarely incorporated into patient care and nurses feel uncomfortable and unprepared to provide it. Purpose: Determine how implementation of a spiritual care education session and standardized spiritual care discussion guides in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) affects nurses' behaviors and attitudes towards providing spiritual patient support. Methods: A pre-test/post-test quasi-experimental design was used to guide this pilot study. A convenience sample of 12 nurses participated in the study. All received a 20-minute spiritual care education session, and were given a printed spiritual care pocket-guide resource, and spiritual care discussion guides meant to structure the nurses' assessment of patients' spiritual needs for routine and end-of-life circumstances. Demographic information, and spiritual practice data was obtained using the Spiritual Care Practice Questionnaire before and after exposure to the intervention. Statistical analysis using a Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and McNemar test determined that nurses reported more frequently providing therapeutic communication to help patients reflect on their spirituality, making arrangements for patients to participate in spiritual practices, and personally participating in practices to enhance their spirituality after the intervention (p
