Il volume raccoglie, in una versione ampliata, i contributi presentati in occasione del seminario ‘Educazione e politica nell’Italia repubblicana’, svoltosi presso il Dipartimento di Scienze della Formazione Roma Tre, il 12 maggio del 2022. Il volume intende mettere in luce, nel confronto tra storici contemporaneisti e storici dell’educazione, come, nella storia delle complesse vicende che hanno riguardato il sistema formativo italiano dalla ricostruzione post-bellica in poi, sia stata operante una contraddizione espressa in un dualismo tra gli ideali di uguaglianza e democrazia sanciti e garantiti dall’entrata in vigore della nuova Carta Repubblicana nel 1948, e il permanere negli apparati amministrativi, nella mentalità ancora assai diffusa nel corpo docente di allora di una concezione ideologica e politica espressione delle élites borghesi e dei precedenti ceti dirigenti, che animarono l’edificazione dello Stato unitario a partire dal secondo Ottocento. Le questioni indagate da studiosi accreditati ma anche da giovani ricercatori seguono tre traiettare tematiche: categorie, linguaggi e pratiche educative; temi del dibattito; i protagonisti. Passione, rigore, propensione ad anticipare i tempi e a superare steccati: ciò che ha segnato l’azione di Enrico Berlinguer nella politica italiana emerge con ancora maggior forza in campo internazionale. È quanto rivelano i discorsi, gli articoli e le interviste raccolti da Alexander Höbel in questo volume, a partire dal 1972, quando Berlinguer assume la guida del Pci. Sono gli anni degli euromissili, dell’invasione sovietica in Afghanistan, dell’escalation nucleare, della guerra in Libano; ma lo sguardo del segretario sa andare anche oltre e in profondità. Per la prima volta nella storia, intuisce, il mondo è strettamente interconnesso e il suo cuore non è più l’Occidente: è necessario cooperare con le nuove realtà emergenti, anche per il bene stesso dei paesi industrializzati, i quali solo in questo modo potranno uscire dalla crisi. Una capacità di visione che coinvolge la Cee e l’intera Europa («senza un contributo ai problemi dell’Est – afferma – non vi sarà sicurezza e sviluppo») e include l’Italia, per cui l’«austerità» qui invocata diventa strumento globale di efficienza e giustizia, per superare un sistema caratterizzato dall’individualismo più sfrenato, dal «consumismo più dissennato». Lo stesso Pci, di cui con orgoglio, in uno straordinario discorso pronunciato nel 1976 a Mosca, al congresso del Pcus, rivendica la storia all’insegna della democrazia e della libertà, deve intraprendere una «terza via» che vada oltre il modello socialdemocratico e il «socialismo reale», accogliere le spinte anticapitalistiche provenienti anche dai movimenti di ispirazione cristiana, aprirsi alle istanze ambientaliste, alle battaglie femministe. È la pace l’obiettivo su cui è costantemente focalizzato Berlinguer; una meta legata a multipolarismo e cooperazione, che si fa nelle sue parole tema spinoso e urticante, pungolo che sollecita all’azione, che impone una battaglia intransigente e a tutto campo contro le diseguaglianze, non solo economiche, perché «una pace non precaria, ma solida, duratura, per essere tale non può che essere fondata sulla giustizia».

The Global Revolution. A History of International Communism 1917-1991 establishes a relationship between the history of communism and the main processes of globalization in the past century. Drawing on a wealth of archival sources, Silvio Pons analyses the multifaceted and contradictory relationship between the Soviet Union and the international communist movement, to show how communism played a major part in the formation of our modern world. The volume presents the argument that during the age of wars from 1914 to 1945, the establishment of the Soviet state in Russia and the birth of the communist movement had an enormous impact because of their promise of world revolution and international civil war. Such perspective appeared even more plausible in the aftermath of the Second World War and of revolution in China, which paved the way for the expansion of communism in the post-colonial world. Communism challenged the West in the Cold War - by means of anti-capitalist modernization and anti-imperialist mobilization - showing itself to be a powerful factor in the politicization of global trends. However, the international legitimacy of communism declined rapidly in the post-war era. Soviet power exposed its inability to exercise hegemony, as distinct from domination. The consequences of Sovietization in Europe and the break between the Soviet Union and China were the primary reasons for the decline of communist influence and appeal. Since communism lost its political credibility and cultural cohesion, its global project had failed. The ground was prepared for the devastating impact of Western globalization on communist regimes in Europe and the Soviet Union.
