Os textos que compõem este livro, embora não constituam propriamente uma unidade temática, fazem parte da mesma tentativa de incursão do autor por campos que tangenciam a Sociologia, a Política e o Direito, realizadas ao longo de quase trinta anos de magistério e de pesquisa. Um pouco mais que pesquisas exploratórias e um pouco menos que construções teóricas aprofundadas, os trabalhos em questão são mais aparentados a ensaios que a capítulos de um todo orgânico.. Por serem ensaios, não são, porém, menos rigorosos nos referenciais teóricos e metodológicos e igualmente por serem livres, não são menos coerentes na sua conexão. Aqui, a Sociologia Jurídica praticada pelo autor encontra-se na confluência da Sociologia, da Política e do Direito, onde os discursos sociais, no entrecruzamento desses sistemas só podem ser entendidos no permanente diálogo entre os seus corpos teóricos. Os trabalhos aqui apresentados retratam, aplicados a diferentes temáticas, esta ideia básica.
