Os engenheiros de reservatórios consideram, para efeitos de simplificação de seus modelos, que a rocha não se deforma. Consideram apenas a compressibilidade de poros. Por outro lado, a geomecânica considera que a rocha tem um comportamento linear elástico antes de atingir o patamar de ruptura da rocha. O que o estudo verificou é que as componentes plásticas estão sempre presentes e que dependem dos parâmetros de resistência e rigidez da rocha. Outro ponto importante são as trajetórias de tensões. Foram consideradas diferentes trajetórias de tensões para se obter a região do fechamento da envoltória de ruptura (modelo de cap). Muitos estudos têm baseado seus modelos em trajetória de tensões hidrostática, o que pode embutir um erro inicial ao modelo, se essa trajetória não representar o que ocorre no campo. O estudo em questão não se preocupou em obter um modelo específico para os ensaios, baseando-se apenas no critério de Mohr-Coulomb como uma referência, sendo então puramente experimental. Por esse motivo, muitos outros trabalhos utilizaram os resultados dos experimentos para seus fins específicos. Além das medições de tensão e deformação, também foram medidas velocidades de ondas cisalhantes e compressionais e fluxo de fluido, tornando o seu conteúdo completo e que poderá fornecer dados para um modelo de sistemas complexos.
