The inappropriate use of antibiotics is a primary cause of the ongoing increase in drug resistance amongst pathogenic bacteria. The resulting decrease in the efficacy of antibiotics threatens our ability to combat infectious diseases. Rapid point-of-care tests to identify pathogens and better target the appropriate treatment could greatly improve the use of antibiotics. Yet there are few such tests currently available or being developed despite the rapid pace of medical innovation. Clearly something is inhibiting the much-needed development of new and more convenient diagnostic tools. This study delineates priorities for developing diagnostics to improve antibiotic prescription and use with the goal of managing and curbing the expansion of drug resistance. It calls for new approaches particularly in the provision of diagnostic devices and in doing so outlines some of the inadequacies in health science and policy initiatives that have led to the dearth of such devices. The authors make the case that there is a clear and urgent need for innovation not only in the technology of diagnosis but also in public policy and medical practice to support the availability and use of better diagnostic tools. This book explores the complexities of the diagnostics market from the perspective of both supply and demand unearthing interesting bottlenecks some obvious some more subtle. It calls for a multifaceted and broad policy response and an overhaul of current practice so that the growth of bacterial resistance can be stemmed.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a biological mechanism whereby a microorganism evolves over time to develop the ability to become resistant to antimicrobial therapies such as antibiotics. The drivers of and potential solutions to AMR are complex, often spanning multiple sectors. The internationally recognized response to AMR advocates for a ‘One Health’ approach, which requires policies to be developed and implemented across human, animal, and environmental health.

Project Financing Analyzing And Structuring Projects written by Carmel De Nahlik and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-04-14 with Business & Economics categories.
This book covers the project financing process from the perspective of a wider and more general group of stakeholders by addressing the three key elements of cash flow; collateral/support structures; and risk management. Following a detailed description of project financing in the first chapter, the authors discuss the project financing process, modelling and risk management, public private partnerships and project financing in practice including the use of the principles in a range of different contexts. A sound understanding of project management is fundamental to successful project financing, as is the need to have a clear plan for a project to communicate the essential information that different stakeholders require.A successful project financing starts with the different phases of a project and descriptions of the key risk areas include the challenges in estimating the cost of a project and the general principles of financial modelling with a discussion of the unique aspects of financial modelling for different industries. Throughout the book, short recent international case studies are used to illustrate successful and unsuccessful projects allowing the lessons learned to be visible and there are many examples of specific applications of project finance techniques throughout the text.

Most doctors will tell you that there isn't much you can do to treat atrial fibrillation, aside from taking medications for the rest of your life. Cardiologists and a-fib specialists John D. Day and T. Jared Bunch disagree. Atrial fibrillation strikes one in four American adults. Not only do people suffering from this condition suffer from shortness of breath, fatigue, chest discomfort, decreased ability to exercise and do activities of daily living, arrhythmia, and palpitations, but their risk of a stroke, cognitive decline and dementia, heart failure, or premature death also shoots way up. Today, a whole new body of research—one most physicians are unaware of—shows that biomarker and lifestyle optimization may put half the cases of atrial fibrillation into remission without drugs or procedures. And for those in whom these remedies are insufficient or not tolerated, new procedures, in combination with biomarker and lifestyle optimization, may offer lifetime remission from atrial fibrillation and its devastating consequences. In clear, accessible, patient-centric language, Drs. Day and Bunch share their revolutionary approach to treating atrial fibrillation, developed through a combined 53 years working with a-fib patients. The effectiveness of their plan has been proven through countless medical studies. And now, in The AFib Cure: Get Off Your Medications, Take Control of Your Health, and Add Years to Your Life, they share that plan with you. If you're looking for a drug-free solution to your atrial fibrillation, or have a family history of atrial fibrillation and don't want to suffer the same fate, The AFib Cure is for you. Let The AFib Cure show you how to live longer, healthier, free from medications, and free from the fear of atrial fibrillation overshadowing your life.
