Die Autorin leistet in dieser Arbeit eine theoretische Grundlegung des Framing-Ansatzes von Robert M. Entman (1993) sowie eine differenzierte Systematik für die Analyse von Stereotypen und von visuellen Darstellungen im Kontext des Framing. Der erste Teil der Studie besteht aus einer umfassenden theoretischen Analyse des beliebten aber auch sehr heterogen verwendeten Framing-Ansatzes von Entman. Darin werden u. a. die von ihm postulierten vier Frame-Elemente erstmals theoretisch fundiert sowie modifiziert. Dazu verknüpft die Autorin theoretische Grundlagen verschiedener geistes- und sozialwissenschaftlicher Disziplinen (Theorien-Triangulation) und entwickelt Indikatoren, mit denen sich Medien-Frames und Stereotype in audiovisuellen Medien analysieren lassen. Der zweite Teil ist eine explorative Fallstudie am Beispiel der Berichterstattung des Schweizer Fernsehens über sexuelle Handlungen an Kindern. Mittels einer qualitativen Inhaltsanalyse wird das im ersten Teil deduktiv entwickelte Analyseinstrument induktiv geprüft und modifiziert. Im Zentrum der Studie steht folglich ein neuartiges, theoretisch fundiertes und empirisch geprüftes Untersuchungsinstrument, das sich für die Analyse von Frames verschiedener (sozialer) Probleme eignet. Es bietet sich somit als Basis für künftige quantitative Medieninhaltsanalysen an.
