Als Vorgänger der Sozialen Kompetenz lassen sich Begriffe wie "Selbstbewusstsein", "Durchsetzungsvermögen", "Kontaktfähigkeit" und "Selbstsicherheit" nennen. Dabei sollte man bei der Sozialen Kompetenz nicht von einem Modebegriff sprechen! Der neue Begriff der Sozialkompetenz soll in Anlehnung an den Kompetenzbegriff, welcher eine lange Tradition in der Psychologie nachweisen kann, gesehen werden. Mit dem Konzept der Kompetenz beschäftigen sich verschiedenste Fachbereiche wie beispielsweise die Persönlichkeits-, Sozial-, Entwicklungs- und Pädagogische Psychologie, die Psychopathologie, die klinische Kinder- und Jugend-, Präventions- und Gemeinde-, und die Gesundheitspsychologie. Nun stellt sich jedoch die Frage, was genau unter dem Begriff der sozialen Kompetenz zu verstehen ist. Darüber soll der nächste Punkt Aufschluss geben (vgl. Pfingsten 2007, S. 2-3) . 3.1 Begriffsdefinition Es gibt verschiedene Versuche, den Begriff der Sozialen Kompetenz zu definieren. Dabei wird von unterschiedlichen Ansätzen ausgegangen. Während eine Definition die sozialen Fertigkeiten ("social skills") in den Vordergrund stellt wird bei anderen Ansätzen die Erreichung bestimmter Ziele als Grundlage verwendet (vgl. Beck et al. 2006, S. 11) Häufig werden die Begrifflichkeiten der Sozialen Kompetenz in Hinblick auf bleibende Persönlichkeitseigenschaften und Soziale Fertigkeiten im Sinne konkreten Verhaltens in sozialen Situationen unterschieden (vgl.
