In Folge des demografischen Wandels ist es von hoher Notwendigkeit, für Selbständigkeit und Gesundheit im Alter zu sorgen. Das vorliegende Buch befasst sich mit dem Hamburger Pilotprojekt der Entwicklung und Umsetzung von Gesundheitszielen für Senioren/-innen in dem Hamburger Bezirk Altona, in dem innerhalb von zwei Jahren (2008 – 2010) verschiedene Maßnahmen zur Gesundheitsförderung und gesundheitlichen Versorgung für Senioren realisiert wurden. Diese Studie ist als eine Art Zwischenevaluation zu sehen und sucht Antworten auf die Frage, wie die Akteure die Entwicklung und Umsetzung der Gesundheitsziele für Senioren/-innen in Altona beurteilen. Als Methode zur Datenerhebung wurde aus der qualitativen Sozialforschung das Instrument des leitfadengestützten Experteninterviews gewählt. Mittels dessen wurden die an dem Prozess der Gesundheitszielentwicklung und -umsetzung beteiligten Akteure nach vorangegangener Dokumentenanalyse befragt.

At the end of the workshop on "New Theoretical Concepts in Physical Chemistry", one of the participants made an attempt to present a first impression of its achievements from his own personal standpoint. Appar ently his views reflected a general feeling, so that the organizers thought they would be suitable as a presentation of the proceedings for future readers. That is the background from which this foreword was born. The scope of the workshop is a very broad one. There are contribu tions from mathematics, physics, crystallography, chemistry and biology; the problems are approached either by means of axiomatic and rigorous methods, or at an empirical phenomenological level. This same diversifi cation can be found in the new basic concepts presented. Some arise from pure theoretical investigation in C*-algebra or in quantum probability theory; others from an analysis of very complex experimental data like nuclear energy levels, or processes on the frontier between classical and quantum physics; others again have their origin in the discovery of new ordered structures like the icosahedral crystal phases, or the knots of DNA molecules; others follow from the application of ideas like frac tals or chaos to new fields like spectral theory or chemical reactions. It is to be expected that readers will have to face the same sort of difficulties as did the participants in understanding such diverse languages, in applying themselves to subjects possibly far from their own experience, and in grasping highly sophisticated new concepts.

An innovative and integrative avenue toward understanding and treating mental health disorders Psychoimmunology is a rapidly maturing area of scientific endeavor that provides a compelling integrative link between the immune system and its response to stress and psychiatric illness. Stress initiates pathological changes by activating the immune and endocrine systems. Inflammation is at the core of the complex and interactive systems that both contribute to and result from psychopathology. Consequently, inflammation research advances our knowledge of the pathology of depression, schizophrenia, chronic fatigue syndrome, posttraumatic stress disorder and a host of co- morbid conditions, notably diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cerebrovascular disease. The possible mechanisms underlying the bidirectionality of co-morbid medical and psychiatric disorders can be viewed as a consequence of inflammatory changes. These emerging novel concepts illustrate how the knowledge of inflammation can enable meaningful integration of psychopathology with physical co- morbidity. The innovative articles in this volume highlight the intricate link between psychiatry and psychoimmunology and underscore the central role of inflammation in furthering our understanding of the pathophysiology underlying mental health and illness.

This book focuses on current applications of molecular quantum dynamics.
