This unique book focuses on remote sensing (RS) and geographical information systems (GIS) in Iraq. The environmental applications include monitoring and mapping soil salinity and prediction of soil properties, monitoring and mapping of land threats, proximal sensing for soil monitoring and soil fertility, spatiotemporal land use/cover, agricultural drought monitoring, hydrological applications including spatial rainfall distribution, surface runoff and drought control, geo-morphometric analysis and flood simulation, hydrologic and hydraulic modelling and the effective management of water resources. Also, this book assesses the impacts of climate change on natural resources using both RS and GIS, as well as other applications, covering different parts of Iraq. The book chapters include tens of maps extracted from the remotely sensed datasets, in addition to tables and statistical relations obtained from the results of the studies of the chapters' authors. These studies have been conducted in different parts of Iraq; in the north (Kurdistan region) with its mountainous and undulating lands, in western parts which have desert soils, and in central and southern Iraq where there are salty soils, dunes, wetlands, and marshes. The book is written by distinguished scientists from Iraq, China, USA, Italy, Iran, Germany, and the Czech Republic who are interested in the Iraqi environment. The book is therefore a useful source of information and knowledge on Iraqi environment for graduate students, researchers, policy planners, and stakeholders in Iraq as well as similar regions.

This book reviews the factors contributing to the degradation of natural resources in the MENA region caused by climate change and contamination. It examines how these issues affect humans, their health, resources, and the planet's future. The impact of climate change is evident in the diminishing quality of land, water, and air, which leads to several environmental problems such as drought, land degradation, vegetation decline, reduced water bodies, soil damage, and other ecological concerns. Divided into 21 chapters, the book comprehensively analyses the risks brought about by climate change and environmental pollution. The chapters are contributed by a diverse team of authors from various countries in the MENA region, who offer a comprehensive overview of recent technologies, future developments, and several case studies analyses. In this book, readers will find topics such as: Impact of climate change, saline irrigation water, and other factors on soil degradation and carbon and nitrogen cycling in the MENA region Desertification, flood-storms, contamination, and their effects on natural resources and sustainability in the region Impact of recycled scrap steel on soil contamination, agriculture wastewater on lakes degradation and water pollution, and the effects of wastewater on agriculture Consequences of mismanaging natural resources and their influence on the environment interrelation between Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Climate Change, and the deterioration of natural resources Application of non-conventional methods to address natural resource issues. This book calls for action to protect natural resources and the environment. These measures may include enacting legislation and regulations to restrict human activities, developing public understanding of the necessity of environmental protection against climate change and environmental contamination, and supporting sustainable behaviours to preserve natural resources. Given its breadth, the book appeals to scholars, researchers, and policymakers alike.

Cultural Heritage Community Engagement And Sustainable Tourism written by Steven Mithen and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-05-20 with Business & Economics categories.
This timely and innovative book critically explores how cultural heritage in the Global South can be used to mobilise community engagement and promote sustainable tourism at archaeological sites. Whilst the volume covers theoretical issues, it primarily offers insight into how both small and large projects within low- and middle-income countries start, plan and develop. It describes what factors lead some projects to succeed, some to fail and most to have elements of both. Core to this investigation, each specifically commissioned chapter considers the challenges of developing collaboration and joint ownership between multiple stakeholders, ranging from local communities to national governments. In addition, the book considers how the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic were managed, with lessons for future events of such magnitude. In summary, this significant volume recognises the value of developing collaborative partnerships between academics, NGOs and local communities, to achieve community engagement within archaeological research and support sustainable development by developing appropriate forms of tourism at archaeological sites. It provides essential reading for those interested in tourism, heritage studies, archaeology, geography, tourism studies and cultural studies. Managing Geo Based Challenges written by Serwan M. J. Baban and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-07-03 with Science categories.
This book provides sound conceptual understanding of the current approach to management and decision making regarding geo-based challenges in developing countries that tend to suffer from information poverty and subjectivity and are reactive. The book also provides the necessary technical tools to energize research thinking and develop locally driven practical and sustainable solutions, ultimately moving management and decision making from being reactive to being proactive. This book fills a void as there are no published books to show the way forward or to present real case studies for this purpose. Case studies that utilize new technologies and scientific thinking are presented for developing sustainable management options based either on producing local applied research or on utilising relevant international research. These case studies are based on the author's first-hand experiences in arid/semi-arid (Iraq, Tunisia, Morocco and Jordan), temperate (UK) and tropical environments (Malaysia, the Caribbean region, Indonesia and Australia).
