The True Story of the Prison Escape That Inspired the Documentary “How It Really Happened” In June 2015, two convicted murderers broke out of the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, in New York’s North Country—launching the most extensive manhunt in state history and dominating the news cycle with the sex scandal linking both inmates to the prison employee who aided them. Double murderer Richard Matt and cop-killer David Sweat slipped out of their cells, followed a network of tunnels and pipes under the thirty-foot prison wall, and climbed out of a manhole to freedom. For three weeks, residents of local communities were prisoners in their own homes as law enforcement swept the wilderness near the Canadian border. Dannemora is a gripping account of the bold breakout and the search that ended with one man dead, one man back in custody—and lingering questions about those who set the deadly drama in motion. “A dramatic story. . . . A true community insider’s perspective on a legendary manhunt.” —Booklist “A gripping account of the daring prison break. . . . True crime fans will be more than satisfied.” —Publishers Weekly “More than just a page-turner—a true story about people who are dedicated to seeking justice.” —Robert K. Tanenbaum “An exciting read, full of shocking revelations. . . . Don’t miss this stunning true story.” —Gregg Olsen “Eye-opening, provocative . . . a true story, full of shocking twists and turns.” —M. William Phelps

After a criminal case that gripped the nation, he was found guilty of the murders of three women and is now serving a life sentence. In Escape from Evil, Cathy reveals the shocking truth about her life with Tobin. They met when she was just sixteen and he seemed caring, until she started to catch glimpses of a very different man hiding behind his normal façade. He became controlling, then violent, until Cathy found herself trapped in a terrifyingly abusive marriage. Eventually, for the sake of her young son, she found the strength to escape and build a better life. In her chilling memoir, Cathy describes how she helped the police build a case, and finally stood in court as a witness against the man who could so easily have murdered her too.

A psychopathic criminal on the run from prison. A family of five held hostage in their home. A frantic police manhunt across the snowbound Derbyshire moors. Just one survivor. The definitive account of the terrifying 1977 Pottery Cottage murders that shocked Britain. For three days, escaped prisoner Billy Hughes played macabre psychological games with Gill Moran and her family, keeping them in separate rooms of their home while secretly murdering them one by one. On several occasions Hughes ordered Gill and her husband Richard to leave the house for provisions, confident that they would return without betraying him in order to protect their loved ones. Blizzards hampered the desperate police search, but they learned where the dangerous convict was hiding and closed in on the cottage. A high-speed car chase on icy roads ended with a crash and the killer being shot as he swung a newly sharpened axe at his final victim. This was Britain's first instance of police officers committing 'justifiable homicide' against an escapee. The story of these terrible events is told here by Carol Ann Lee and Peter Howse, the former chief inspector who saved Gill Moran's life over forty years ago. Peter's professional role has permitted access to witness statements, crime scene photographs and police reports. Peter Howse and Carol Ann Lee have made use of these, along with fresh interviews with many of those directly involved, to tell a fast-paced and truly shocking story with great insight and empathy.

The One Who Got Away is a remarkable personal account from the original intended target of convicted murderer, Mark Twitchell. On October 3 2008, computer company contractor Gilles Tetreault logged onto a dating website, looking for companionship. There he met what he thought was a pretty, young blonde named Sheena. Aspiring film maker Mark Twitchell, lured Tetreault to a rented garage in south Edmonton by posing as a woman on the dating site. Arriving for his 'date', Gilles was brutally attacked by a man in a hockey mask and after a violent struggle, narrowly escapes with his life. One week later, Johnny Altinger was lured to the same address and attacked in the same manner, only his life ended in what police believe was a ghastly case of life imitating art. Mark Twitchell, the man found guilty of Altinger's murder, was a fan of the hit TV show 'Dexter', a sensationalized depiction of the life of a vigilante serial killer. This fast-paced, first-person, gripping memoir reads like a novel. Revealing details never before made public, Gilles recounts his personal journey of the assault, the highly publicized court case, the resulting media fallout, and life as 'The One Who Got Away'.

What happens when a person crosses the line from dark fantasy to real life acts of brutal rape, murder, and cannibalism? Are these people driven by a desire so insatiable they are incapable of controlling it? Alfred Packer, a man who unapologetically cannibalized men he was hired to lead through the wilderness, but who he instead led to their doom. Tsutomu Miyazaki, deformed from birth, his mind became as twisted as his hands, until he could no longer resist the urge to attack and cannibalize young girls. By weaving a tale in which Dark Fantasies Turned Reality, this book invites you to see life from a perspective few ever witness-- that of the killer. Along with a historical look at cannibalism through the ages, these stories beg the reader to answer the question; was the murderer committing cannibalism because he was incapable of resisting the urge to kill and consume or is the explanation simply pure evil? Escape From Broadmoor written by Gordon Lowe and has been published by The History Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-05-01 with True Crime categories.

John Thomas Straffen – Britain's longest-serving prisoner – was the first patient to escape from Broadmoor Hospital and be prosecuted for a crime committed on the run. He killed within hours. Prior to this, at his home in Bath, he was dismissed as a loner, an imbecile, a 'child trapped in an adult's body'. On the afternoon of Sunday 15 July 1951, John Straffen strangled 8-year-old Brenda Goddard as she picked flowers. Three weeks later, he committed a similar murder before inadvertently confessing to the police. Faced with a serial killer with a mental age of 10, whose motive apparently was nothing more than to annoy the police, the court sent Straffen to Broadmoor Institute, as it was known then, for the criminally insane. But on 29 April 1952, having spent only six months at the Institute, he escaped in a carefully planned bid for freedom that should not have been possible. During these four hours on the run, hoping to show the authorities he could be free and not commit further offences, Straffen instead murdered 5-year-old Linda Bowyer. Prime Minister Winston Churchill and his beleaguered government intervened to prevent Straffen walking free again. But was Straffen insane? Using previously unpublished documents, including government classified papers, author Gordon Lowe paints a vivid picture of a man who shocked the nation and confused the courts with his crimes.
