El propósito de esta investigación es analizar las estrategias discursivas que emplea Leonardo Padura en la elaboración de La novela de mi vida (Tusquets, 2002), novela escrita y publicada en Cuba en el bicentenario del natalicio del poeta José María Heredia. La escritura realizada en condiciones de restricción de la libre expresión, ya sea en el exilio o en la clandestinidad, ha sido estudiada desde diversos ángulos. Tomando en consideración el espacio que hay entre la escritura en el exilio y la escritura en la clandestinidad, en esta investigación se estudiará el discurso de quienes escriben sin haber desertado de un régimen autoritario. Lo que nos proponemos analizar es la manera en que Padura aplica estrategias discursivas con el fin de evitar la autocensura y la confrontación directa con los censores del Estado. El tema ofrece la oportunidad de analizar y comprender las repercusiones de las restricciones señaladas, así como los rasgos comunes de las respuestas culturales a que ésta da lugar. Así mismo, se estudiarán las formas de expresión de la crítica social al interior de Cuba, un país con un régimen totalitario en el que actualmente existe una regulación importante por parte del Estado que inhibe la libre expresión y circulación de las ideas. Las estrategias que hicieron posible la producción de la novela en este contexto constituye el objeto de esta investigación. La novela cubana contemporánea ha sido estudiada, en su mayor parte, considerando, sobre todo las obras de escritores ya consagrados y de generaciones anteriores a la revolución. Por otro lado, cuando encontramos análisis críticos de autores más recientes, advertimos opiniones parciales por parte de quienes toman posición respecto de la revolución, ya sea para defenderla o para dejar ver que ha resultado en un sistema opresivo.
