A lo largo de la historia del arte, los períodos de transición se han caracterizado siempre por un notable incremento en la producción teórica de los artistas, cuyos argumentos se convertían así en una de las fuentes más seguras para explicar el porqué de esas crisis, sus orígenes y su proceso de desarrollo. La ruptura con los sistemas de representación tradicionales que en torno a 1900 emprende la vanguardia artística constituye, por la brusquedad y radicalidad con que se llevó a cabo, un magnífico ejemplo: manifiestos, cartas, declaraciones, panfletos, tratados y testimonios de todo tipo pretender dar cuenta de las razones que animaban a sus ejecutores, y esgrimen los argumentos con que las distintas facciones de la vanguardía histórica se opusieron entre sí o establecieron alianzas frente a enemigos comunes. Explicar y combatir son los dos objetivos principales que la vanguardia persigue en sus escritos. escritos que día a día nos van descubriendo aspectos mal conocidos o prácticamente ignorados de la historia del arte moderno, pues esos mismos escritos son también día a día rescatados del olvido en que estaban. No hace apenas diez o quince años, el número de manifiestos y textos programáticos de la primera vanguardia, recogido y difundido por las antologías al uso, era todavía muy restringido. hoy, por el contrario, las reediciones de libros y revistas que habían llegado a ser auténticas rarezas bibliográficas, así como la historiografía artística más reciente, han puesto ya a nuestro alcance un volumen casi desmesurado de documentos, donde resulta fácil perderse.

For hundreds of years, Barcelona and Madrid have shared a deep rivalry. Throughout history, they have competed in practically every aspect of social life, sport, politics, and culture. Over the last century, the antagonistic relationship between these two cultural capitals has been dismissed as simply a fact of life and thereby scholars, for the most part, have focused only on Barcelona or Madrid when addressing this cultural moment. By delving deep into the myriad of cultural and political complexities that surround these two cities from the onset of Futurism (1909) to the arrival of Surrealism in Spain (1929), a complex social and cultural network is revealed. Networking between artists, poets, journalists and thinkers connected avant-garde Barcelona and Madrid, thereby creating synergy for this artistic and literary movement. Aunque no cabe duda de que la obra de arte es la fuente originaria y primordial de todo el proceso creador, éste no podrá entenderse ni contextualizarse sin la consulta de otras fuentes contemporáneas al artista, que, a modo de eslabones de una cadena, dan sentido a la obra, ayudan a desentrañar las circunstancias que rodearon su creación,y actúan como espejo crítico donde se hace balance de todo el proceso. Las fuentes se convierten así en herramientas o instrumentos de trabajo, a veces difícilmente clasificables (sobre todo en la época contemporánea), que aportan al investigador información orientada a descubrir, resolver o dar forma y sentido al tema que le ocupa. Las fuentes de la historia del arte en la época contemporánea , además de paliar el vació bibliográfico que actualmente existe en este campo, surge con el propósito de servir de apoyo a la investigación y a la docencia. A la investigación, porque las 'fuentes' son los instrumentos de los que se sirven el estudioso para dar forma a la historia, y en este caso a la historia del arte. No importa el tema, pues este repertorio de 540 fuentes (ordenadas por tipologías y cronología), lo que le brinda son 'pistas' para empezar sus búsquedas y, en definitiva, una 'metodología' de trabajo y una 'estructura básica' sobre la que ir montando todo el aparato documental de la investigación. Apoyo a la docencia, porque este libro se convierte, por un lado, en insustituible material de consulta y estudio para el alumno, y por otro, en un utilísimo repertorio documental para el profesor a la hora de preparar sus clases, hacer un comentario de texto en el aula o asesorar al estudiante en sus trabajos. La superficie mural en un entorno arquitectóncio muchas veces se ha entendido como una decoración, algo complementario a la arquitectura. Este estudio pretende mostrar cómo esa superficie mural no es un complemento sino que puede cualificar la arquitectura considerándose un elemento más de ésta, modificando la percepción del espacio, funcionando como un elemento arquitectónico más, aunque aparentemente intangible. Este trabajo pretende estudiar, a través de la pintura mural y la arquitectura que la cobija, la relación entre el espacio y sus límites, como elementos esenciales para la compresión de la arquitectura. Por supuesto, teniendo en cuenta la ambigüedad generada debido a la capacidad que tiene la superficie mural se ser percibida como superficie, es decir límite, o como espacio. Entonces podemos decir que este desconcierto necesario para desencadenar el proceso interior, que provoca que una obra nos emocione, encuentra un vehículo perfecto para su desarrollo a través de la modificación que opera la superficie mural sobre el espacio arquitectónico. No es que éste haya sido el papel que ha desempeñado la pintura mural, pero sin duda éste es el que nos interesa. Su capacidad de modificar el espacio, generando ambigüedad, a través de su percepción como superfice o como espacio.
