In ambito hamiltoniano si elencano esercizi che coinvolgono le principali nozioni formali (sistemi hamiltoniani, trasformazioni canoniche, funzioni generatrici, equazione di Hamilton-Jacobi). Qualche esercizio di Meccanica Statistica chiude la raccolta. A ciascun esercizio è abbinata una traccia della risoluzione. Una breve introduzione a ciascuna sezione raccoglie le principali nozioni teoriche per affrontare gli esercizi. The manual offers around two hundred years of Mechanics, to be performed using the Lagrangian and the Hamiltonian formalism. The first includes exercises on constrained discrete systems (in a fixed or mobile way) to be studied qualitatively in the case of one and two degrees of freedom, some exercises on the motion in a central field and on the rigid bodies. Within the Hamiltonian frame exercises involving the main formal notions (Hamiltonian systems, canonical transformations, generating functions, Hamilton-Jacobi equation) are listed. Some exercises of Statistical Mechanics close the collection. Each exercise is coupled with a trace of the resolution. A brief introduction to each section collects the main theoretical concepts in order to deal with the exercises.

This book is intended to give a clear and concise introductory account of the basic ideas underlying nuclear and elementary particle physics. The attempt throughout is to convey a sound physical understanding of the structures and processes encountered. It assumes some knowledge of elementary quantum mechanics, particularly the treatment of angular momentum, and the rudiments of special relativity. In addition to 'standard' calculations based on this knowledge, frequent use is made of 'order-of-magnitude' and 'dimensional' arguments. In this way it has been possible to give some discussion of quite advanced topics and recent developments. Although reference is made from time to time to the apparatus of nuclear and particle physics no technical detail is given. My basic hope is that students using this book will acquire a sound understand ing of what nuclear and particle physics is about and will wish to learn more. The scienti c method is based on the measurement of di erent physical qu- tities and the search for relations between their values. All measured values of physical quantities are, however, a ected by uncertainty. Understanding the origin of uncertainty, evaluating its extent, and suitably taking it into account in data analysis, are fundamental steps for assessing the global accuracy of physical laws and the degree of reliability of their technological applications. The introduction to uncertainty evaluation and data analysis procedures is generally made in laboratory courses for freshmen. During my long-lasting teaching experience, I had the feeling of some sort of gap between the ava- able tutorial textbooks, and the specialized monographs. The present work aims at lling this gap, and has been tested and modi ed through a feedback interaction with my students for several years. I have tried to maintain as much as possible a tutorial approach, that, starting from a phenomenolo- cal introduction, progressively leads to an accurate de nition of uncertainty and to some of the most common procedures of data analysis, facilitating the access to advanced monographs. This book is mainly addressed to - dergraduate students, but can be a useful reference for researchers and for secondary school teachers. During the fifties, one of the authors, G. Stampacchia, had prepared some lecture notes on ordinary differential equations for a course in ad analysis. These remained for a long time unused because he was no vanced longer very interested in the study of such equations. We now see, though, that numerous applications to biology, chemistry, economics, and medicine have recently been added to the traditional ones in mechanics; also, there has been in these last years a reemergence of interest in nonlinear analy sis, of which the theory of ordinary differential euqations is one of the principal sources of methods and problems. Our text, based on the old notes and experience gained in many courses, seminars, and conferences, both in Italy and abroad, aims to give a simple and rapid introduction to the various themes, problems, and methods of the theory of ordinary differential equations. The book has been conceived in such a way so that even the reader who has merely had a first course in calculus may be able to study it and to obtain a panoramic vision of the theory. We have tried to avoid abstract formalism, preferring instead a discursive style, which should make the book accessible to engineers and physicists without specific preparation in modern mathematics.
