Un primer capítulo, al que hemos titulado “La incorporación de La Florida a la Monarquía Hispánica”, en el cual hemos analizado ese inmenso proceso, que se iniciaba en 1512, a través de la presencia de las primeras expediciones. Fueron tiempos de contactos con los pueblos aborígenes que la poblaban, de erección de nuevas localidades, de cartografiar el territorio o de análisis de sus posibles vías de explotación comercial.En un capítulo segundo, trataremos “la fortificación del territorio: el castillo de San Agustín de La Florida”, así como algunos otros que vinieron a constituir las plazas fuertes de esa península norteamericana. En esas páginas, contemplaremos las vicisitudes vividas por las autoridades del territorio, el coste, planos, arquitectos, ingenieros o mano de obra que levantaron esas importantes construcciones.En un tercer apartado, titulado “el ejército español en La Florida”, analizaremos el papel que tuvo la milicia allí acantonada, el origen de muchos de esos militares, sus mandos, los distintos regimientos, así como las principales batallas, además de las armas ofensivas y defensivas de que dispusieron a lo largo de esos más de tres siglos de presencia.Ya en cuarto lugar, dedicaremos un capítulo específico a las “misiones, misioneros e iglesia en La Florida Española”, que tanto dieron en la siempre difícil tarea de trasladar la imagen de Dios a los primitivos pobladores del territorio, respondiendo paralelamente con ello a la obligación asumida por los monarcas españoles en las Bulas Alejandrinas. Gracias a ello, fueron erigidas numerosas misiones por las distintas órdenes religiosas que estuvieron allí presentes, iglesias con materiales pobres, pero también las hubo construidas con piedra y otros elementos sólidos.En un quinto capítulo, trataremos “los primeros Borbones y la herencia de los Tratados de Utrecht”, en ese periodo de transición del siglo XVII, época de los Habsburgos Españoles, al siglo XVIII, en donde la Monarquía Hispánica había salido, ciertamente, dañada de la Guerra de Sucesión que se proyectó a lo largo de década y media. Pero también fue una nueva época en las artes de administrar las tierras adscritas a la Corona, con importantes reformas que afectaron en mayor y menor grado a esa Administración de manera general y también particular, incluyendo, obviamente, a La Florida.En un sexto capítulo, trataremos el más que interesante asunto de “las relaciones de España con la población indígena: entre la cordialidad y la rivalidad”, máxime cuando las otras potencias europeas, igualmente presentes en esas tierras norteamericanas, intentaron ganarse a la población aborigen, para luego emplearla en beneficio propio, esto es: para comerciar con ellas, pero también para emplearlas como parte de sus tropas o como mano de obra barata. En esas páginas no nos olvidaremos de incorporar a las tribus más significativas de La Florida, así como los lugares en donde se encontraban asentadas, sus hábitos más característicos o sus adicciones.Tras ello, en un séptimo capítulo, analizaremos a uno de los personajes más significativos de aquella Florida bajo soberanía española, al que hemos titulado “William Bowles y La Florida”. Se trató de un líder indígena que supo aunar las voluntades de muchos nativos de ese territorio, en nombre de los cuales reclamó salir de las supuestas tiranías de Unidos o España, la nulidad de ciertos tratados o, incluso, la creación de un territorio independiente en tierras de La Florida.Ya en un octavo capítulo, titulado “el nacimiento de los Estados Unidos: crónica de una nueva potencia para el control del área septentrional de América”, pondremos el foco en uno de los acontecimientos más importantes de la historia del Continente Americano, derivado de la independencia de las llamadas Trece Colonias Atlánticas con respecto de Inglaterra. A la larga, esos autodenominados Estados Unidos o Congreso, acabarían desplazando a cuantas otras potencias europeas habían previamente dominado esas tierras, singularmente a españoles y británicos.Más tarde, ya en noveno lugar, bajo el título “la Florida Española tras la independencia de los Estados Unidos de América: entre alianzas y disputas”, analizaremos pormenorizadamente cómo fueron las relaciones de la Monarquía Hispánica y esa joven nación, que comenzaba a andar, pero en donde residía un profundo espíritu de expansión territorial.Un décimo capítulo, titulado “la Guerra de la Independencia y el retorno de Fernando VII” se encarga de analizar la situación existente en tierras de la metrópoli, en guerra contra la Francia Napoleónica, y como el vacío de poder dejado por el exilio del monarca español terminaría afectando al conjunto de territorios españoles diseminados por tierras americanas, por más que la soberanía nacional viniese a recaer, primero en la llamada Junta Central (1808-1810) y, más tarde, en el Consejo de Regencia (1810-1814).Finalmente, en un undécimo capítulo, al que hemos titulado “el Tratado Adams-Onís y el fin de la presencia española en tierras de La Florida”, abordaremos ese espacio cronológico que abarca desde la llegada a las tierras norteamericanas del embajador español, Luis de Onís a la ratificación de ese convenio entre España y los Estados Unidos, en virtud del cual se habría de producir, entre otros compromisos allí incluidos, la cesión de La Florida a la Nación Norteamericana, dando desde ese momento por finiquitada la presencia española, que por espacio de tres siglos allí se había mantenido.Tras ello, unos anexos y el apartado destinado a fuentes y bibliografía completarán esta obra, que espero colme las expectativas que habías puesto en la misma. Igualmente, hemos tenido a bien insertar a lo largo de toda esta obra, una amplia serie de planos, imágenes o cuadros, en la clara intención de permitir una mejor recepción de la información.
