Por fin en castellano una versión actualizada de este clásico del siglo XVII que hasta ahora solo podía conseguirse como facsímil. Más de tres siglos después, se pone a disposición de todos los cristianos una obra clave que descansa en la autoridad de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, quien se reveló a santa Margarita María para extendiera la devoción a su Sagrado Corazón por todo el mundo. Este libro bien puede decirse que es uno de los más importantes sobre la devoción al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús. Fue escrito por el sacerdote jesuita Jean Croiset a finales del siglo XVII. Como director espiritual de santa Margarita María de Alacoque (1647-1690), estaba íntimamente familiarizado con las revelaciones de nuestro Señor a esta gran santa por lo que este libro es una “clave” fundamental para comprender la importancia y la centralidad del Sagrado Corazón en la vida interior de los cristianos. Fue nuestro Señor en persona quien ordenó, a través de santa Margarita María, que se escribiera este libro. A punto de finalizarlo, la santa le comunicó al autor que el Señor le había dicho que estaba tan de acuerdo con sus deseos que no sería necesario cambiarlo nunca. Más adelante, le reveló al padre Croiset que había sido el Señor quien le había inspirado para poder escribirlo según su beneplácito. Se divide en tres partes. En la primera, se explican los motivos para vivir la devoción al Sagrado Corazón; en la segunda, se ofrecen los medios para adquirirla; y en la tercera se nos muestra el modo práctico para llevarla a cabo. Como anexo, los apuntes biográficos del padre Croiset sobre santa Margarita María, quien falleció poco antes de que este libro viera la luz. Esta obra fantástica nos ayuda a entender por qué son tan pocos los que llegan a ser grandes santos y por qué son tan pocos quienes, a pesar de acudir con frecuencia a los sacramentos, llegan a progresar en su vida espiritual.
