A thorough analysis of contemporary digital media practices, showing how people increasingly not only consume but also produce and even design media. With many new forms of digital media–including such popular social media as Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr—the people formerly known as the audience no longer only consume but also produce and even design media. Jonas Löwgren and Bo Reimer term this phenomenon collaborative media, and in this book they investigate the qualities and characteristics of these forms of media in terms of what they enable people to do. They do so through an interdisciplinary research approach that combines the social sciences and humanities traditions of empirical and theoretical work with practice-based, design-oriented interventions. Löwgren and Reimer offer analysis and a series of illuminating case studies—examples of projects in collaborative media that range from small multidisciplinary research experiments to commercial projects used by millions of people. Löwgren and Reimer discuss the case studies at three levels of analysis: society and the role of collaborative media in societal change; institutions and the relationship of collaborative media with established media structures; and tribes, the nurturing of small communities within a large technical infrastructure. They conclude by advocating an interventionist turn within social analysis and media design.

Severe Asthma written by Kian Fan Chung and has been published by European Respiratory Society this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-06-01 with Medical categories.

Severe asthma is a form of asthma that responds poorly to currently available medication, and its patients represent those with greatest unmet needs. In the last 10 years, substantial progress has been made in terms of understanding some of the mechanisms that drive severe asthma; there have also been concomitant advances in the recognition of specific molecular phenotypes. This ERS Monograph covers all aspects of severe asthma – epidemiology, diagnosis, mechanisms, treatment and management – but has a particular focus on recent understanding of mechanistic heterogeneity based on an analytic approach using various ‘omics platforms applied to clinically well-defined asthma cohorts. How these advances have led to improved management targets is also emphasised. This book brings together the clinical and scientific expertise of those from around the world who are collaborating to solve the problem of severe asthma.

Perinatal Cardiology A Multidisciplinary Approach written by P. Syamasundar Rao, MD, DCH, FAAP, FACC, FSCAI and has been published by Cardiotext Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-02-01 with Medical categories.

Perinatal cardiology is an important developing field as high quality ultrasound is used on a growing number of pregnant women, and diagnosis prior to birth will become a more common occurrence. In addition, highly sensitive noninvasive diagnostic tools, advances in neonatal care and anesthesia, evolution of transcatheter interventional procedures and performance of complicated surgical procedures in the neonate and young infant have advanced to such an extent that almost all congenital cardiac defects can be diagnosed and “corrected.” Illustrated with over 500 figures, this book by leaders in the fields of pediatric cardiology, neonatology, pediatric cardiovascular surgery and interventional pediatric cardiology focuses on congenital heart defect issues during the perinatal period: prenatal (before birth) and neonatal (first month after birth). This book discusses the three major areas of perinatal cardiology: Provides an overview of advances in perinatology, neonatology, cardiology and cardiac surgery in making early diagnosis and offering treatment options for patients with CHD.The concept of the multidisciplinary approach to managing infants with congenital cardiac lesion.Evidence-based therapeutic approaches to successfully treat the fetus and the newborn with congenital cardiac lesions. Audience: Pediatric cardiologists, cardiologists, neonatologists, maternal-fetal specialists, pediatric intensivists, cardiovascular surgeons, and house-staff in pediatric cardiology and neonatal and pediatric intensive care units. Dr. Rao's vision of the direction of pediatric cardiology has led to his acceptance that a great part of serious congenital heart disease is now managed in the perinatal period… This book is written not only for the pediatric cardiologist but for all those specialists and subspecialists who participate in a programmatic approach to the child with congenital heart disease, from the embryologist to the pediatrician or family practitioner to the hands of caregivers in the tertiary care setting. - From the Foreword by William B. Strong, MD

Neurologic emergencies are a common reason for admission to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). A thorough understanding of the diseases and disorders affecting the pediatric central nervous system is vital for any physician or healthcare provider working in the PICU. In the following pages, an international panel of experts provides an in-depth discussion on the res- citation, stabilization, and ongoing care of the critically ill or injured child with central nervous system dysfunction. Once again, we would like to dedicate this textbook to our families and to the physicians and nurses who provide steadfast care every day in pediatric intensive care units across the globe. Derek S. Wheeler Hector R. Wong Thomas P. Shanley v Preface to Pediatric Critical Care Medicine: Basic Science and Clinical Evidence The ? eld of critical care medicine is growing at a tremendous pace, and tremendous advances in the understanding of critical illness have been realized in the last decade. My family has directly bene? ted from some of the technological and scienti? c advances made in the care of critically ill children. My son Ryan was born during my third year of medical school. By some peculiar happenstance, I was nearing completion of a 4-week rotation in the newborn intensive care unit (NICU).

This monograph explores the mechanisms and timing of possible etiologic events that contribute to fetal and neonatal neurologic injury. the report presents evidence that most cases of cerebral palsy are a result of multifactorial and unpreventable causes that occur during fetal development or in the newborn after delivery, and not a result of an isolated intrapartum hypoxic event. the report contains a set of criteria that may be used to define (or rule out) an acute intrapartum hypoxic event sufficient to cause or suggest cerebral palsy.
