Imaging plays an increasingly vital role in the management of athletes aiding diagnosis, injury grading and prognosis, as well as guiding therapy. These processes apply equally to elite and recreational athletes young and old. I have always found that understanding the relevance of imaging fndings is easier when accompanied by knowledge of the anatomy, biomechanics and pathological processes involved in injury formation. This textbook has been developed with both radiologists and sports cli- cians in mind and aims to bring all these processes together and illustrate the spectrum of injury and associated clinical features for specifc anatomical areas. Internationally recognized musculoskeletal experts have contributed chapters which provide an imaging and clinical overview of the most relevant joint, bone and soft tissue athletic injuries. There is guidance for the reader on why specifc injuries occur, how to identify the optimal imaging evaluation and how to interpret the subsequent imaging fndings. Acute and overuse injuries are discussed as well as the premature degenerative processes that occur in athletes. State-of-the-art imaging techniques and fndings are presented including the use of muscu- skeletal ultrasound, conventional MR imaging and MR arthrography. Therapeutic ima- guided intervention using fuoroscopy, CT, and ultrasound is also discussed. This balance of techniques should allow a clinician whose practice focuses on one particular modality to become aware not only of that technique’s abilities but other modalities and their capabilities and limitations. Atlas Of Imaging In Sports Medicine written by Jock F. Anderson and has been published by McGraw-Hill/Spanish Imports this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998 with Medical categories.

Sports medicine is emerging as an increasingly specialised and stimulating field of medical practice. High quality diagnostic imaging is an essential component of a successful sports medicine practice, as efficient management of a sporting injury can begin only after a correct diagnosis is established. Consequently it is essential that the clinician has an appreciation of imaging standards and is able to pursue appropriate diagnostic pathways. The Atlas of Imaging in Sports Medicine recognises the important role played by plain films which are invariably the initial and, in the vast majority of cases, the only imaging method used. The more sophisticated tests are also discussed, their appropriate usage dependant on an understanding of the basic response of tissue to injury. The Atlas offers the healthcare manager of an injured athlete, whether physiotherapist, general practitioner or sports physician, a valuable reference text, liberally illustrated with high quality images of both common and unusual sporting injuries.

This comprehensive book describes in detail how nuclear medicine and radiology can meet the needs of the sports medicine physician by assisting in precise diagnosis, clarification of pathophysiology, imaging of treatment outcome and monitoring of rehabilitation. Individual sections focus on nuclear medicine and radiologic imaging of injuries to the head and face, spine, chest, shoulder, elbow and forearm, wrist and hand, pelvic region, knee, lower leg, ankle and foot. The pathophysiology of sports injuries frequently encountered in different regions of the body is described from the perspective of each specialty, and the potential diagnostic and management benefits offered by the new hybrid imaging modalities – SPECT/CT, PET/CT, and PET/MRI – are explained. In addition, a range of basic and general issues are addressed, including imaging of the injuries characteristic of specific sports. It is hoped that this book will promote interdisciplinary awareness and communication and improve the management of injured recreational or elite athletes.

Sports medicine is acquiring an important role owing to the increasing number of sports-active people and professional athletes. Accurate diagnosis of the different pathological conditions is therefore of fundamental importance. This book provides an overview of the most frequently observed conditions and correlates them with sports activities, as well as documenting relatively unknown lesions of increasing significance. Diagnostic techniques are described and compared, and their roles defined; interpretative pitfalls are highlighted. All of the contributing authors have distinguished themselves in the field and have a deep knowledge of the problem involved in the diagnosis and classification of sports injuries.

This uniquely interdisciplinary book is a practical resource on orthopedic MR imaging that bridges the backgrounds of radiologists and orthopedic surgeons. Radiologists learn why surgeons order imaging studies. They also learn terminology that will help them tailor reports to the specialty. Orthopedic surgeons gain insight on when to order an MRI, how MRI affects decision making, and how to interpret images. Case studies also depict key clinical and exam points, supplemented by MR images and illustrations. Shorter sections highlight other anatomical areas, and additional chapters address diagnostic accuracy and imaging pitfalls.

Most books on imaging in sports medicine are concerned with the particular joints or anatomy involved in sports-related injuries. This book, however, takes a different perspective by looking at injuries that are associated with specific sports. All of the well-known major sports, such as football, tennis, and basketball, are included, as are many less common but still very popular sports, such as baseball, American football, and rugby. The chapters on sports-specific injuries are preceded by two chapters on the perspective of clinicians and another two chapters on the general use of MR imaging and ultrasound in sports medicine. The authors of the book are world-renowned experts from five continents. Imaging in Sports-Specific Musculoskeletal Injuries should be of great interest to radiologists, sports medicine physicians, orthopedic surgeons, and rehabilitation physicians, and to anyone interested in the treatment of sports-related injuries.

Muscle Injuries In Sport Athletes written by Bernard Roger and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-01-17 with Medical categories.

This book attempts to provide a comprehensive look at all of the pathologies of muscles that are likely to be encountered in treating sports-related injuries. Its purpose is to give the practitioner a guide for identifying injuries and choosing the best therapeutic strategy. The first part presents the consensus view of current knowledge: the physiology of lesions and their prognosis as well as their anatomy, clinical imaging, and treatment. Then each of the muscles is described in turn, with a review of anatomy, clinical examination, the results of imaging, and therapeutic choices for acute and chronic injuries. A major section is dedicated to imaging, with the emphasis on which diagnostic methods are best for specific injuries and how to use diagnostic imaging to determine the most suitable therapeutic strategies. Special care has been taken to provide high-quality illustrations that clearly show how to identify the lesion of the damaged muscle. A wealth of illustrations, many in color, are included. Finally, the book concludes with some clinical cases and technical notes relevant to treatment of sports-related muscle injuries.
