Em reconhecimento dessa importância da estatística no turismo e da escassez na literatura nacional de um livro-texto específico sobre esse assunto, foi elaborado este livro, que se destaca como pioneiro por apresentar o desenvolvimento teórico, os exemplos e os exercícios voltados para o setor turístico. A autora adota a forma de abordagem introdutória, explicitando os conceitos e métodos de análise estatística de maneira que possam ser facilmente assimiláveis à compreensão dos estudantes das áreas de turismo. Os capítulos iniciais versam sobre técnicas de amostragem, conhecimento das séries estatísticas, organização dos dados, elaboração de tabelas, construção de gráficos e determinação de parâmetros estatísticos. Em seguida, traz um estudo detalhado da distribuição de freqüência e sua representação gráfica. Adiante, introduz o cálculo das medidas de posição, de dispersão, de assimetria e de curtose. Estabelece conceitos e propriedades da teoria das probabilidades e da análise combinatória, para depois estudar as distribuições de probabilidade binomial e normal. Por fim, faz um estudo estatístico da correlação entre duas ou mais variáveis e a reta de regressão. O apêndice contém uma tabela dos números aleatórios e a tabela da área de uma distribuição normal padrão.
