Ada banyak cara yang mungkin dilakukan manusia untuk mengenang peristiwa bersejarah. Ada banyak kemungkinan yang pantas dilakukan untuk merayakan titik awal yang pernah ada sehingga masa kini menjadi lebih bermakna. Lima puluh tahun lalu (1 Januari 1969) Fakultas Filsafat Universitas Katolik Parahyangan (FF Unpar) menggoreskan dalam catatan sejarah bahwa dia mau hadir dan mau terus berkarya untuk menjadi bagian dari sebuah kesadaran universal: hidup itu perlu dipikirkan, dihayati, dan dihidupi secara bijaksana. Salah satu usaha konkret yang dilakukan oleh Centre for Philosophy, Culture, and Religious Studies (CPCReS) untuk menandai sekaligus mensyukuri kelahiran, kehadiran, dan kontribusi FF Unpar bagi dunia pendidikan ialah menerbitkan lima buku, penanda lima dasa warsa FF Unpar. Kelima buku ini merupakan produk dari aktivitas dan kreativitas para dosen, mahasiswa, dan tenaga kependidikan di bawah naungan FF Unpar melalui penyelenggaraan berbagai kolokium, seminar, dan Extension Course. Narasumber untuk berbagai peristiwa keilmuan ini beragam. Ada yang dari kalangan Unpar sendiri ada pula dari luar. Buku-buku ini merupakan bukti pengajaran, penelitian, dan pengabdian Fakultas Filsafat Unpar. Kelima buku ini pun menjadi media sosialisasi bahwa kampus FF Unpar telah dan akan terus berupaya menjadi komunitas akademik untuk mengasah kepekaan nalar, menguji ketajaman nurani, mempertebal afeksi positif, menyadari pluralitas sebagai anugerah, dan menikmati jejaring ilmu yang terus berevolusi

Contemporary culture is rediscovering the importance of beauty for both social transformation and personal happiness. Theologians have sought, in their varied ways, to demonstrate how God's beauty is associated with notions of truth and goodness. This book breaks new ground by suggesting that liturgy is the means par excellence by which an experience of beauty is communicated. Drawing from both secular and religious understandings, in particular the mystical and apophatic tradition, the book demonstrates how liturgy has the potential to achieve the one ultimately reliable form of beauty because its embodied components are able to reflect the disturbing beauty of the One to whom worship is always offered. Such components rely on understanding the aesthetic dynamics upon which liturgy relies. This book draws from a broad range of disciplines concerned with understanding beauty and self-transformation and concludes that while secular utopian forms have much to contribute to ethical transformation, they ultimately fail since they lack the Christological and eschatological framework needed, which liturgy alone provides.

Kehidupan bangsa yang beradab di zaman ini ditandai oleh kemajuan masyarakat dalam berpikir kritis, berinovasi secara kreatif, dan berelasi secara harmonis-dinamis-kolaboratif. Istilah harmonis menggambarkan ekosistem kemajemukan yg tetap terjaga, dinamis menggambarkan sikap dan gerakan utk terus memaknai pengalaman keharmonisan agar tidak beku dan mandeg, kolaboratif menggambarkan sikap keterbukaan untuk bergotong-royong secara sinergis ibterdisipliner dalam membangun peradaban. Dalam membangun kehidupan bangsa yang beradab ini, masyarakat Indonesia perlu memulai dengan menghargai modalitas budaya yang telah dimiliki sendiri, bukan hasil internalisasi nilai-nilai budaya luar yang terkadang kurang kontekstual dan tidak berpihak. Pendidikan yang dijalankan dilakukan dengan pendekatan yang menitikberatkan pada proses dan tujuan relasi yang humanis. Kehidupan spiritualitas perlu dimaknai melalui perspektif teologi yang berpihak pada korban dan yang menyuarakan pihak-pihak yang lemah dan terpinggirkan secara nyata. Perspektif psikologis kehidupan sosial menitikberatkan pada pentingnya pluralitas, kualitas kesejahteraan individu-sosial, kolaborasi, dan harmoninya ekosistem alam dan sosial. Demikian juga bahasa, sastra, dan narasi sejarah perlu menjadi wahana inklusi, "voicing the voiceless", dan meneriakkan kaum tertindas. Dengan demikian, membangun kehidupan berbangsa yang lebih beradab berarti membangun relasi sosial yang sehat dan penuh harmoni, mengembangkan kehidupan yang inklusif, menghargai keberagaman, mengembangkan spiritualitas yang berpihak pada korban, serta menyuarakan "the voiceless".

Tending the Fire That Burns at the Center of the World engages the central question of Christian formation, that is, what kind of knowing is most likely to awaken and sustain Christian faith? This book seeks to reclaim aesthetics--beauty and creativity--as the church's most native theological way of knowing and being, which participates with God's own glory and creativity. This book traces the prominence of aesthetics up until the dawn of the Enlightenment, including recent theologians who reclaim aesthetics for theology and formation. The book elaborates the aims and techniques of aesthetic approaches to teaching and learning in the church. Finally, this book cautions against overly determined rationalisms and moralisms that do not retain a sense of wonder, delight, and openness in the church's teaching, liturgy, and proclamation. In this view, the church does not simply regurgitate familiar texts, political tropes, or flattened doctrines but breaks into the world as Christ's body, a parable, a song, a flash mob, interrupting business as usual, giving new expression to acts of care, repentance, forgiveness, joy, and communion, awake to the beauty of God's gifts and inviting our worship.
