Eternal God Saving Time written by George Pattison and has been published by Oxford University Press, USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015 with Philosophy categories.

Starting from the assumption that "time is the horizon of the meaning of Being" (Heidegger), Eternal God / Saving Time attempts to discover what the central religious idea of eternity or of God as "the Eternal" might mean today. Negotiating ideas of divine timelessness and sempiternity (everlastingness) as well as the attempts of some philosophers to develop the idea of a temporal God, Professor George Pattison surveys a range of positions from analytic philosophy and from the continental tradition from Spinoza through Hegel to the present. Intellectual and cultural forces have tended to separate time and eternity, and both philosophical and theological examples of this tendency are examined. Nevertheless, starting from the experience of life in time, some modern thinkers have developed a new approach to the Eternal as what grounds or gives time. This leads through ideas of novelty, utopia, hope, promise, and call to the projection of a creative and transformative memory--remembering the future--that affirms human solidarity and mutual responsibility. Even if this cannot be made good in terms of knowledge, it offers a basis for hope, prayer, and commitment and these options are explored through a range of Christian, Jewish, Greek, and secular thinkers. This development re-envisages the idea of redemption, away from the Augustinian view that time is what we need to be rescued from and towards the idea that time itself might save us from all that is destructive and tyrannical in time's rule over human life.

You Will Live Forever Since We Re All Parts Of God written by Dean Cochran Gross and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-09-01 with Education categories.

My book You Will Live Forever: Religion, Science And Reincarnation, bases my argument for eternal life for all on three premises: The first is not often heard, the argument called non-dualism. This means that god is everything, all spirit and matter. Therefore, since god is eternal, all human beings and animals also are eternal. God is love, a much more frequently heard reason for believing in reincarnation, but a good one. If god is all-powerful, all-loving and we're parts of god, god surely saves us all by reincarnation. I have four more reasons why I believe god grants us reincarnation: Without this method of saving and reusing us, Earth would be unspeakably tragic in view of our being able to think, to love, to hope and to dream. Earth would be drastically unfair and unequal, with billions of human beings never having opportunities for escape from poverty, disease, physical handicaps and lack of education. God would be extremely wasteful if a new spirit had to be created every time a new one is needed. Faith in reincarnation relieves us of great sadness for we believe we and our loved ones are reunited in heaven, and at death we don't have to say farewell to Earth.

A Phenomenology Of The Devout Life written by George Pattison and has been published by Oxford University Press, USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-11 with Religion categories.

A Phenomenology of the Devout Life is the first part of a three-part work, A Philosophy of Christian Life. Rather than approaching Christianity through its doctrinal statements, as philosophers of religion have often done, the book starts by offering a phenomenological description of the devout life as that is set out in the teaching of Francois de Sales and related authors. This is because for most Christians practice and life-commitments are more fundamental than formal doctrinal beliefs. Although George Pattison will address the metaphysical truth-claims of Christianity in Part three, the guiding argument is that it is the Christian way of life that best reveals what these beliefs really are. As the work is a philosophical study, it does not presuppose the truth of Christianity but assumes only that there is a humanly accessible meaning to the intention to live a devout life, pleasing to God. This can be said to find expression in a certain view of selfhood that emphasizes the dimensions of feeling and will rather than intellect and that culminates in the experience of the annihilation of self. This is a model of selfhood deeply opposed to contemporary models that privilege autonomous agency and the devout life is therefore presented as offering a corrective to extreme versions of the contemporary view.

Cross And Cosmos written by John D. Caputo and has been published by Indiana University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-07-23 with Religion categories.

The renowned theologian “brings Luther and cosmology into dialogue with radical theological movements that have their point of departure in deconstruction” (George Pattison, author of Eternal God/Saving Time). John D. Caputo stretches his project as a radical theologian to new limits in this groundbreaking book. Mapping out his summative theological position, he identifies with Martin Luther to take on notions of the hidden god, the theology of the cross, confessional theology, and natural theology. Caputo also confronts the dark side of the cross with its correlation to lynching and racial and sexual discrimination. Caputo is clear that he is not writing as any kind of orthodox Lutheran but is instead engaging with a radical view of theology, cosmology, and poetics of the cross. Readers will recognize Caputo’s signature themes—hermeneutics, deconstruction, weakness, and the call—as well as his unique voice as he writes about moral life and our strivings for joy against contemporary society and politics. “This work will be eagerly awaited and immediately read by John D. Caputo’s many followers. They will be looking for him to fill out the ‘big picture’ which makes manifest for the first time all the parts and pieces he has contributed to the theological project he launched early in the previous decade.” —Carl Raschke, author of Postmodern Theology “Caputo is always distinctive.” —George Pattison, author of Eternal God/Saving Time

God And Timelessness written by Nelson C. Pike and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-01-29 with Religion categories.

Christian theologians are agreed that God is eternal. However, disagreement arises within the Christian tradition over the precise interpretation to be given to the word 'eternal'. Professor Nelson Pike examines one way of understanding the doctrine of divine eternity that has had considerable prominence in the writings of both Catholic and Protestant theologians. On this interpretation, to say that God is eternal is to say that God exists 'outside of time'; in other words, that God is 'timeless'. Professor Pike undertakes to expose both the strengths and shortcomings of this analysis of God's eternity. In addition to his discussion of divine eternity, Professor Pike treats a wide range of other theological and philosophical topics. These include the medieval doctrine of essential prediction, the syntactical status of the term 'God', the problem of divine foreknowledge, the notion of God's omnipotence, the doctrine of divine immutability, and the general methodological issues connected with traditional ways of determining the adequacy of statements ascribing specific attributes to God.
