This book addresses issues related to ethics and the scholarship of teaching and learning, and pays special attention to ethical concerns and experiences that have arisen from engaging in Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) work. The book draws on a range of research projects, theoretical frameworks and narrative experiences to provide multiple perspectives of how meaning is made of research ethics in SoTL, academic community and REB partnerships, experiences of Students as Partners in SoTL, and ethically-minded approaches to teaching, learning and inquiry. Specifically, this edited book includes ethical practices that have become increasingly expansive in an ever-evolving academic environment such as navigating pandemic pedagogy and data ownership due to increased online content. In addition, contributions pertaining to academic community partnerships between REBs and faculty detail realistic narratives and lessons learned about how higher education can become more equitable, diverse and inclusive. Subsequently, decolonial ethics for teaching and learning in higher education, as well as participatory parity, exemplify the need for SoTL practitioners to be responsive to the social and cultural realities of a global context in ways that address social inequities and social responsibility. Relational ethics by way of student perspectives on vulnerability and classroom-based SoTL research underscore the need for students to be taught about their own agency as a means of providing student voice within SoTL work. Lastly, this book celebrates how ethically-minded approaches to teaching, learning and inquiry uncover strategies and pedagogy that encourage concepts such as ethical imagination and systems and design thinking practices.

The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning: A Guide for Scientists, Engineers, and Mathematicians shows college and university faculty members how to draw on their disciplinary knowledge and teaching experience to investigate questions about student learning. It takes readers all the way through the inquiry process beginning with framing a research question and selecting a research design, moving on to gathering and analyzing evidence, and finally to making the results public. Numerous examples are provided at each stage, many from published studies of teaching and learning in science, engineering, or mathematics. At strategic points, short sets of questions prompt readers to pause and reflect, plan, or act. These questions are derived from the authors' experience leading many workshops in the United States and Canada on how to do the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). The taxonomy of SoTL questions-What works? What is? What could be?-that emerged from the SoTL studies undertaken by scholars in the Carnegie Academic for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning serves as a framework at many stages of the inquiry process. The book addresses the issue of evaluating and valuing this work, including implications for junior faculty who wish to engage in SoTL. The authors explain why SoTL should be of interest to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) faculty at all types of higher education institutions, including faculty members active in traditional STEM research. They also give their perspective on the benefits of SoTL to faculty, to their institutions, to the academy, and to students.

Education Religion And Ethics A Scholarly Collection written by Dianne Rayson and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-04-18 with Education categories.

This collection draws on research in educational areas displaying best practice pedagogy, theoretical and practical, underpinned by philosophy, empirical science, and neuroscience, among other disciplines. It focusses especially on implications for higher education, school education, professional ethics, and religion. Higher education exploration is on the diminution of the humanities and implications for the range of knowledge needed for future citizenship. The work includes a revisioning of higher education’s purpose, especially the changing role of the doctorate and its examination. The focus on school education takes the same pedagogical lens to humanities and social sciences, examining values education and religious studies. Ethical issues include colonisation and decolonisation, especially around the concept of land and ramifications for intercultural studies. The ethics and practice of teaching about life and death issues in medical education are explored in light of research in dialogic consensus. The religion section includes research on interfaith education, especially concerning Islam, and eco-theological education, especially focussed on climate change. Contributors are academic colleagues or former doctoral students of Terence J. Lovat (University Professor, Australia, UK, and Canada) whose internationally acclaimed research straddles these areas. Many of the contributors hold positions of influence in the academic or professional world, while others bring their newly minted doctoral research to the content. The intended readership includes academics and doctoral students across education, ethics, religion, social studies, ecology, health and medicine, indigenous studies, and international affairs. This collection, published in honour of Emeritus Professor Terence Lovat, provides rich insights into the scope and multidisciplinary depth of his scholarship. A philosopher of education whose main work has centred on curriculum theory and values education and ethics in education, Lovat’s scholarship reminds us that the education of children and young people must be concerned with more than academic attainment. In emphasising education as a holistic and moral endeavour—one involving hearts and minds—Lovat has consistently advocated for the provision of opportunities for young people to extend their horizons beyond the school environment to engage with issues in society that go beyond academic learning. Professor Lovat has also made a major and longstanding contribution to the development of Studies of Religion in schools and to the theology and history of Islam and Islamic Education. In traversing Lovat’s significant and remarkable contributions to education, religion and ethics, and the links between them, this book serves as a testament to a highly esteemed scholar. Combining real examples with a roadmap of how to construct studies, analyze results, and share work, this book serves as a primary research methodology text for the field of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). The volume seeks to explore key aspects of SoTL that are often missing in past frameworks: research-based ontologies, epistemologies, and ethical axiologies. Chapters map out the expansive continuum of SoTL by detailing its history and key work while incorporating Indigenous perspectives on pedagogy and research methodologies. The text also features methods of qualitative and quantitative data generation essential for SoTL such as conducting interviews and focus groups, procuring data through questionnaires and artifact observation, and sharing results for dissemination in traditional and public scholarship. A comprehensive guide for conducting SoTL research, this book illustrates a broad array of contexts and a spectrum of research methodologies to expand, enrich, and support both novice and experienced SoTL practitioners and researchers in answering the contexts and questions at the heart of teaching and learning.
