Etika Damai Sejahtera adalah sifat utama dari Etika Kristen. Sebuah istilah untuk menunjukkan bahwa Etika Kristen mengarah kepada rasa dan tindakan Shalom yakni Damai Sejahtera dari Allah. Bagaimana mengaplikasikan Etika Damai sejahtera itu dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Ajaran pokoknya sangat singkat, yakni doktrin mengasihi Tuhan dan sesama manusia. Akan tetapi kasus kehidupan itu banyak. Tiap kasus dan isu mempunyai latar belakang yang berbeda. Salah satu cara adalah: melihat kasus per kasus, mengkaitkan dengan konsep Alkitab dan membuat keputusan atau penilaian berdasarkan Firman dan rasa damai sejahtera. Kata Etika berasal dari bahasa Yunani - Ethikos, dapat berarti: Kebiasaan, atau Norma. Dalam bahasa Latin kata itu adalah: Morales yang berarti moral, atau pola tingkah laku atau kelakuan. Kebanyakan orang tidak menyamakan Etika dengan Moral karena menganggap Moral hanya tentang kelakuan yang terlihat. Sedangkan Etika lebih dalam pengertiannya dari itu. Etika menyangkut sesuatu norma tentang apa yang dilakukan maupun yang akan dilakukan. Namun keduanya tentu memiliki kaitan. Secara keilmuan, Etika Kristen adalah bagian dari Etika Teologi Kristen. Mengapa dibelakang kata Teologi ada kata Kristen? Bukankah Teologi boleh diartikan sebagai ilmu tentang kealahan atau keagamaan? Semula memang demikian. Istilah Teologi hanya ada dalam kontek Kristen, belakangan istilah itu dipakai oleh kelompok lain. Etika Kristen mendasarkan kaidah-kaidahnya pada: Apa yang boleh, tidak boleh, pantas tidak pantas dilakukan. Semua konsepnya berdasarkan Alkitab. Bagi penganut Taurat, agak mudah untuk mengakomodasi hal itu karena ada 613 Mitzvah yakni hukum yang mengatur apa yang boleh dan tidak dilakukan. Angka 613 ternyata sesuai dengan angka yang diambil dari jumlah 1 tahun hari matahari yakni 365 plus jumlah tulang dan organ besar tubuh manusia yakni 248 (Babylonian Talmud, Makkot 23b-24a) Dengan kata lain Mitzvah bagai ketetapan tentang alam dan kehidupan sehari hari. Sulitnya, bagi umat Kristen, di dalam Perjanjian Baru, tidak banyak menulis tentang syariat - syariat seperti Mitzvah tersebut diatas. Tuhan Yesus menyederhanakan segala hukum Taurat hanya dengan dua hal yakni : Mencintai Tuhan Allah dan sesama manusia. Dari konsep inilah muncul pemahaman tentang Etika Damai Sejahtera. Tuhan Yesus datang kedalam dunia ini untuk membawa Perdamaian manusia dengan Allah. Perdamaian terjadi karena kematianNya di kayu salib sebagai usaha penebusan dosa umat manusia. Bagi umat tebusanNya, maka mandat utamanya adalah membawa Damai sejahtera ini diantara manusia. Perilaku umat Kristen secara praktis didasarkan kepada rasa damai. Buku ini mengungkap peristiwa, pertanyaan, dan isu-isu yang terjadi disekitar kita. Ditulis dengan bahasa yang mudah dimengerti

Contrary to the generally positive view of "development" as a structural improvement in people's well-being, development policies, programs, and projects often affect people's lives in a negative way. Is there, then, a protection against such "development hazards?" The question is highly topical as about ten million people annually enter the cycle of forced displacement and relocation due to development projects. Their lack of access to decision-making on development policies is part of the problem. In this context, the internationally declared right to development might offer a solution as it stipulates free and meaningful participation. The analyses of this thesis show that the official and international consensus on the moral ideas behind the right to development is insufficient to guarantee both the proliferation and implementation of that discourse at the grass root level. In Indonesia, efforts towards implementation reflect different dynamics entailing competing encounters between all stakeholders, which sometimes are unfavorable to the poor. Notably, the enforcement of the right to development - as both a legal resource and a political instrument to change development practices - needs to be firmly rooted in an enabling, rather than adverse, national environment. While opening a new dialogue on the right to development as an instrument to combat development hazards, this book reveals the complex interface between human rights and development as actually practiced.
