ALL ACROSS EUROPE helps children learn about the countries, people, animals, and landscapes of modern Europe. As with the other books in the geography book series, which includes ALL ACROSS CHINA and ALL ACROSS CANADA, this book uses artwork and poems to make geography fun, with cartoon characters named after the capital of each country as a learning device. It also helps to explain and simplify a continent with many new countries, often confusing borders, and a rich, varied culture. Enjoy your visit! - ALL ACROSS EUROPE is a mnemonic-filled learning/teaching tool geared first and foremost toward helping children learn capitals and locations of European countries in a fun and entertaining way. Additional facts, including agricultural and industrial products, are also provided to enrich the child's learning experience. - 5 stars! Reviewed By Mamta Madhavan for Readers' Favorite: "All Across Europe by Ellen Weisberg and Ken Yoffe is a fascinating, informative, and educational book for children that takes them on a joy ride to the beautiful continent of Europe. The book gives in-depth details about the continent through the eyes of five friends; Mickey, Tricia, Stevie, Ernie, and Wendy. Readers get to know about the impressive structures in the different regions of the continent, the history, the food, culture, the weather, and landscape that make Europe what it is. "The book gives readers necessary and useful information about places in Europe. Coupled with verses and interesting illustrations, the book reaches out to children who want to know more about the fascinating places in Europe. It's definitely a splendid journey with these five friends as readers explore this incredible continent. I would recommend this book to all school and public libraries as it works as a good reference guide. It can also be used for bedtime story-telling.The introduction to the places is simple and easy for children to understand and remember. "Books like this are welcome as they make learning and teaching attractive and fun. These kinds of stories are the best way children can be taught and also infuse in them a liking for traveling and exploring new destinations. On the threshold of a new century the organisers of the European Population Conference 1999 (EPC99) in The Hague decided not only to highlight the population trends that Europe is facing today but also the changes in the 21 st century that are set to shape the future of Europe. They decided to focus on comparative issues, both in time and in space. In order to trace the degree of homogeneity and heterogeneity of European populations over time, converging and diverging population trends that are specific to contemporary and future Europe need to be explored. This is reflected in EPC99's motto: 'European Populations on the threshold of the new millennium; unity in diversity. ' Future demographic developments will be caused by specific economic, social and cultural conditions in Europe, and will, in turn, have a major influence on future economic and social conditions. To the extent that demographic trends differ across countries, separate countries may face different social and economic problems. As demographic trends tend to have long-lasting effects, it is important to assess the possible consequences of future demographic developments at an early stage. On the occasion of EPC99 , two of the organisers, Statistics Netherlands (SN) and the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI), decided to produce a set of two population scenarios, showing the possible impact of converging and diverging population trends in the next century.

For the earnest student of Europe, this unique work brings together a basic review of essential segments of intellectual thinking. In this volume, pertinent conceptual relationships, substantial relevant particulars, and an array of specific mechanics are all intertwined and used as a focus to examine the ongoing complex European integration process. By defining important parameterizations, this text develops a paradigm probing the current-day international activities which are rapidly leading to meta-national European supra-nationality. The most basic substantive of the integration process is the collective various peoples of Europe with their individual diversities. The origins of these collective diversities, the defining historical nationhood precedent, is herein examined, revealing the essential elements of individual identities, ethnologies, linguistic collectivities, and other antecedents imputing elements which compose the substance and stuff today coalescing into tomorrow's future harmonized European identity. This book is unique as it traces from many different origins the elements that are merging Europe into one collective future. This book sketches a process of onward integration as a continuation of what has happened in the past. This argument is augmented with many time lines, definition martial, and historical presentation, making it easy for the reader to grasp straightforwardly the wide-ranging substance out of which a single whole is being constructed. As a cognitive dynamic, movements such as the Nordic League, European Union, and EFTA as well as many other entities have been noted-- movements each in their own way, all contributing to an overall integrated Europe. As the more prominent initiative, the European Union with its diverse and constituent parts is carefully presented, as well as its unique decision-making process which is working to focus singular interests into collective benefits. Integration is an inevitable byproduct of continentalization, itself a sub consideration of globalization. The time and perhaps the gestalt of the end result of this activity is not known; however, with a comprehensive overview the motion is clearly identifiable, and the direction unequivocally certain. The Single House of Europe is being built of very different elements. This book defines these elements in terms of a paradigm for understanding the process of integration, the process that is rapidly forming the new Single House of Europe.
