A must-have for policy makers, justice practitioners, researchers and all those who are interested in the functioning of justice in Europe and beyond, to have access to the information needed to be able to understand, analyse and reform The latest edition of the report of the European Commission for the efficiency of justice (CEPEJ), which evaluates the functioning of the judicial systems of 44 participating Council of Europe member States as well as two observer States to the CEPEJ, Israel, and Morocco, continues the process carried out since 2002, focusing the content of the report on the analysis of European trends. In addition, the CEPEJ has also elaborated, for each participating state a profile which presents in a synthetic way the main data and indicators developed by the CEPEJ as well as an analysis of the main aspects of each judicial system. Relying on a methodology which is already a reference for collecting and processing large number of judicial data, this unique study has been conceived above all as a tool for public policy aimed at improving the efficiency and quality of justice.

Sustaining Access To Justice written by Xandra Kramer and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-06-26 with Law categories.
This book explores the complex landscape of costs and funding of civil justice. Access to civil justice continues to be undermined by State retrenchment of legal aid budgets, increases in procedural costs, the complexity of court procedures, and severe delays in the dispensation of justice. This has resulted in a shift from public to private funding of civil litigation, and the emergence of new business models and forms of private justice. The book explores the dynamic landscape of legal costs and financing from 3 perspectives: regulatory frameworks in public and private funding; new trends and challenges in contemporary legal financing; and the transformative potential of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and online dispute resolution (ODR) procedures to streamline civil justice processes and expand access to justice. By addressing the intersectionality of legal, economic, political, market and social dynamics, the book helps readers gain a better understanding of the inherent complexity of costs, funding, and their implications for access to justice. This timely resource offers academics, policymakers, and practitioners valuable insights into the dynamics that shape the current state and future prospects of civil justice in Europe to help create sustainable pathways for improved access to justice.

Open Justice In The Digital Age written by Philippe Jougleux and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-06-13 with Law categories.
This book discusses the principle of open justice with a focus on the mechanism of video streaming of court proceedings. The principle of open justice is multidimensional and involves both the human right to a fair trial and freedom of expression. The book distinguishes between three components of open justice: public hearings, media coverage of proceedings, and publication of judgments. All three have been and/or could be substantially affected by the digital revolution: public hearings could benefit from video streaming, the media coverage from social media, and the publication of judgments from online databases. The book analyses recent advances and challenges related to the digitalization of open justice. Particular attention is paid to the relevant case law of European courts, to the impact of the GDPR with an emphasis on the sensitive issue of pseudonymizing judgments, and to a comparison of various national practices. Although the book’s primary focus is on European law, it will also be of interest to scholars from other continents, either for purposes of comparative research, or because the topic itself touches on general theory of law issues.

This book provides a distinctive and critical analysis of the anti-money laundering (AML) measures that have been put in place in Türkiye and the United Kingdom. The work presents a comparative analysis of if, and to what extent, the AML regimes in these jurisdictions are fit for purpose in countering some of the most pressing predicate crimes. It investigates the AML regimes relating to tackling the riskiest/most prevalent predicate crimes, that is, drug trafficking and tax crimes, thereby filling a significant gap within the current literature. The study provides insights into the effectiveness and efficiency of national AML frameworks adopted by Türkiye and the UK in addressing distinct crimes, thereby identifying essential features of an optimum AML ecosystem that could effectively address predicate crimes regardless of their nature. This novel approach offers a detailed analysis of the law in books and law in practice elements of the AML regimes in Türkiye and the United Kingdom which will set the tone for conducting similar studies in other jurisdictions. The book will be of interest to academics, researchers and policy-makers working in the areas of Financial Crime, Law Enforcement and Comparative Law.

Greece’s economy has been outpacing the euro area average since 2021. Support measures protected households and businesses against high inflation, while public debt declined significantly. Growing disbursements of the Recovery and Resilience Funds, continuous employment gains and disinflation, and recent structural reforms are all expected to support growth. However, significant challenges lie ahead. Sustaining primary surpluses and preserving public investment are essential to maintain the debt-to-GDP ratio on a firmly declining path. This requires shifting the structure of public spending towards investment, lowering tax expenditures and tackling tax evasion further, building on recent progress. Strengthened vocational education and training, as well as better recognising prior learning and developing childcare capacity, are needed to mobilise larger parts of the working-age population and ease high labour shortages and skill mismatches. Boosting the rising, yet still relatively low level of labour productivity and investment while decoupling of emissions from activity and adapting to climate change are key to achieve sustainable rise in living standards. Further strengthening competition, reducing the regulatory burden and improving access to skills and financing would support firm growth and innovation. A mix of investment, regulations and emission pricing would help achieving net zero emissions by 2050. SPECIAL FEATURE: BOOSTING FIRM GROWTH AND INNOVATION

The Heroes Of The Judicial Periphery written by Alan Uzelac and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-05-01 with Law categories.
This book assesses the role of court experts, court clerks and court staff, and other actors on the 'judicial periphery' who play an important role and often co-determine the pace, outcome, and tone of the judicial process. In national civil justice systems, the limelight is all too often cast on the main actors: judges, lawyers, and parties but the court's support staff can sometimes be overlooked. This book explores their role. The knowledge and skills of experts may be indispensable at times, but it is among the most expensive, complicated and time-consuming means of evidence. The judges adjudicate, but where experts are involved in the process, they have a decisive impact on the outcome of litigation. Therefore, a principal focus of the book is on experts and how they are appointed, managed, and remunerated across Europe and the world. Other ancillary professions may also be decisive for effective provision of court services. Different jurisdictions have different rules and habits, but inevitably recognise the need of adequate support for judges. Sometimes judges command the whole team of clerks and lawyers; sometimes they share a secretary or a clerk. But in all cases, those who assist judges in their daily work have a significant impact on the effectiveness and quality of the judicial process and its outcome. The book considers the contribution of different actors including clerks, secretaries, advisors, counsels and reporters. It focuses on cooperation and the interplay between judges and other professional actors in litigation.
