Wie sich zeigt, wirken die Medien korrigierend bei der Verbreitung von Parteienpopulismus und greifen auch selbst kaum auf populistische Kommunikation zurück. In bestimmten Ländern allerdings wird die Presse zu einem versteckten Helfer der Populisten, weil sie populistisch kommunizierenden Parteien überproportionale Medienpräsenz gewährt.
