The art of movement called eurythmy began about eighty years ago, based on Rudolf Steiner's knowledge of spiritual beings and meanings behind various human movements, as well as knowledge of the inner spiritual qualities of human beings when we move. Eurythmy performance is choreographed according to "forms" drawn to reflect the inner nature of spoken language (speech eurythmy) or a musical piece (tone eurythmy), which is the subject of Eurythmy Forms for Tone Eurythmy. Steiner produced about 1500 forms for speech and tone eurythmy to be performed in Dornach and other locations. Many of his forms for tone eurythmy arose spontaneously in response to requests for forms from eurythmists. Steiner's spontaneity is readily apparent in the sketches themselves, with some drawn at rehearsals as he listened to the music. Steiner sketched others in the evening after hearing the music once, making them available for rehearsal the next day. When he was confined to bed during his final illness, he drew forms simply by looking at the sheet music. Eurythmy Forms for Tone Eurythmy contains facsimiles of the Rudolf Steiner's original drawings and, in many cases, instructions for performing them. Included are forms for compositions by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Franck, Grieg, Handel, Lewerenz, Liszt, Mozart, Reger, Schubert, Schumann, Scriabin, van Stuten, Tartini, and many more. These lectures are an unusual treasure, since they are the only two groups of lectures that Steiner gave primarily on music, other than the lecture cycle for the tone eurythmy course, Eurythmy as Visible Music. In the first group of three lectures, given in 1906, Steiner explains why music affects the human soul so powerfully. Music has always held a special position among the arts because it is the only art form whose archetype, or source, lies not in the physical world, as with architecture, sculpture, and painting, but purely in the spiritual world-the soul's true home. Music thus directly expresses through tones the innermost essence of the cosmos, and our sense of wellbeing when we hear music comes from a recognition of our soul's experience in the spiritual world. In the remaining lectures, given in 1922 and 1923, Steiner discusses our experience of musical intervals and shows how it has undergone profound changes during the course of evolution. The religious effects of music in ancient times and the union of music with speech are considered, as well as the origin of musical instruments out of imaginations that accompanied singing. New insights are offered on the nature of the major and minor modes and on future directions of musical development. In this paper those and other question will be tried to explain. Eurythmy, derived from Greek (eu rythmos = good rhythm) [Grassmann, Lothar] is an expressive movement art also called visible speech. Eurythmy still is a little explored phenomenon but what is known about it is very interesting for semiotic studies. When we move in daily routine, we do not pay attention to how we use our body. Eurythmists do: the “Art of Soul” [Zanker, Claudia] combines body and soul and visualizes sounds and speech by moving the whole body in space instead of speaking words out loud. Also it “brings the essence of music and language to visible manifestation” [Austin Eurythmie Ensamble]. This is not about doing any arbitrary exercises but more about following strict rules connected to sounds and rhythm of language. What is deep inside while speaking is shown by gestures, what touches the soul by listening to music can be seen by watching people. Eurythmy was developed by Rudolf Joseph Lorenz Steiner. In cooperation with Marie von Sievers, who decided about the name “Eurythmy”, Steiner created the first motion sequences in 1912 and after a while the whole masterpiece with all its rules and sections. Steiner was an Austrian philosopher, esoteric and educator. He lived from 1861 till 1925. During his lifetime he founded the anthroposophical ideology (Anthroposophy = human’s wisdom) and the concept of Waldorfschools as well. The first Waldorfschool opened its doors in 1919. In Steiner’s opinion the eurythmical character is to let “the insides move out” so that mind, soul and body work together harmoniously. [Krämer:35] Today Eurythmy is used in education and therefore obligatory subject in all grades of Waldorfschools. The students learn Eurythmy as a language and also as “Visible Music” [Steiner:Gesang]. There are many different performances of all kinds of music that can be seen worldwide. Every performance is presented in special rooms, some by professional Eurythmists who have completed a five year program at an university. Every actor wears long, wide, and flowing robes.

David Tudor is remembered today in two guises: as an extraordinary pianist of post-war avant-garde music who worked closely with composers like John Cage and Karlheinz Stockhausen and as a founding figure of live-electronic music. His early realization of indeterminate graphic scores and his later performances using homemade modular instruments both inspired a whole generation of musicians. But his reticence, his unorthodox approaches, and the diversity of his creative output which began with the organ and ended with visual art have kept Tudor a puzzle.
