This book analyzes this popular religious phenomenon from an Anabaptist-Mennonite perspective. It considers the origins of Evangelicalism, its various branches, its positive and negative contributions, its sociopolitical context, and its theological emphases. The authors of Evangelicalism and Anabaptism include such well-know writers as Ronald J. Sider, J.C. Wenger, Wes Michaelson, and C. Norman Kraus. The essays offer thoughtful lay persons careful discussions of the biblical inerrancy controversy, Hal Lindsey's popular eschatology, Òborn-againÓ politics, the charismatic movement, and the radical ÒNew Evangelicals.Ó The book provides historical and biblical perspectives from which to critique both Evangelicalism and contemporary Mennonitism.

Anabaptists have often felt suspicious of American evangelicalism, and in turn evangelicals have found various reasons to dismiss the Anabaptist witness. Yet at various points in the past as well as the present, evangelicals and Anabaptists have found ample reason for conversation and much to appreciate about each other. The Activist Impulse represents the first book-length examination of the complex relationship between evangelicalism and Anabaptism in the past thirty years. It brings established experts and new voices together in an effort to explore the historical and theological intersection of these two rich traditions. Each of the essays provides fresh insight on at least one characteristic that both evangelicals and Anabaptists share--an impulse to engage society through the pursuit of active Christian witness.

Finding Common Ground A difference of opinion among believers isn't a new issue. Even in the Bible, specifically Acts 15, we see a quarrel between champions of the gospel: Paul and Barnabas. The argument actually resulted in a split--Paul and Barnabas each went his own way. How often do we discount other viewpoints or ideas because they simply don't match up with our own? When it comes to the Christian faith, especially, we can spend an inordinate amount of time debating minor, non-salvation issues--instead of partnering together to achieve the ultimate goal of spreading the good news of Jesus Christ to a desperate world. Join author Darryl Klassen as he uses his own faith journey as a guide to help show how these two distinct idealogies are intertwined and how they can work together to further the Kingdom. In The Anabaptist Evangelical Puzzle: Discovering How the Pieces Fit, readers will learn how to define "Evangelical" and "Anabaptist," and explore how to carefully merge these two idealogies into a gospel message to reach the world around them.

On 9 January 2013 Dr. Ian M. Randall celebrated his sixty-fifth birthday. For this occasion, some friends and colleagues presented him with a Festschrift which reflects his achievements as a church historian with a particular interest in the Evangelical movement and spirituality. It also mirrors his involvement with theological training in central and eastern Europe. Over the last twenty years Dr. Randall has also established himself as a leading historian of the Baptist churches in Europe. The contributions to Grounded in Grace interact with his areas of interest: Baptists, the Anabaptist movement, Evangelicalism and spirituality. This book makes a valuable contribution to thinking in all these areas. Scholars, pastors, other church leaders and students will profit hugely from it. It contains a short biography and a bibliography of Ian’s publications.

God Our Savior written by C. Norman Kraus and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-12-18 with Religion categories.

This volume makes a systematic theological statement in light of the unique revelation of God and humankind that has come to us in Jesus, the Messiah, as recorded in Scripture. It is the companion to the author's 'Jesus Christ Our Lord' (1987, 1990). There are chapters on Jesus Christ as the lens through which we receive theological insight, revelation, God, humanity, the Holy Spirit, the church, and last things, all understood through God's self-disclosure in Christ. From within the Anabaptist theological tradition, Kraus offers a biblically oriented alternative to rationalistic orthodoxy and to liberalism. He takes Scripture as the normative witness to the meaning of Christ, the authoritative source for theological reflection, and thus makes a thoroughly evangelical statement. Yet this evangel begins with salvation as newness of life in resurrection with Christ, not simply as juridical justification. The emphasis is on God as source of creative potential rather than on God as instigator of legal judgment. Christ, the Second Adam, the truest image of God, is both the climax of creation and the means through which humanity can attain that image and respond to God in personal relationship. Kraus views the Holy Spirit as the enlivening presence of the risen Christ, the church as the continuing saving mission of Christ, and eschatology as the victory of Christ over the powers of evil and death.

Those labeled as "evangelicals" commonly are assumed to constitute a large and fairly homogeneous segment of American Protestantism. This volume suggests that, in fact, evangelicalism is better understood as a set of distinct subtraditions, each with its own history, organizations, and priorities. The differences among groups are so important that the question arises: Is the term "evangelical" useful at all?
