Diplomarbeit aus dem Jahr 2007 im Fachbereich Theologie - Historische Theologie, Kirchengeschichte, Note: 1,3, Theologische Hochschule Friedensau (Kirchengeschichte), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die vorliegende Arbeit hat zum Ziel, anhand der Betrachtung dreier Freikirchen deren Prozesse der Vergangenheitsbewältigung und Schuldverarbeitung in Bezug auf das eigene Verhalten im Dritten Reich darzustellen und miteinander zu vergleichen. Ein besonderer Fokus soll dabei auf den offiziellen Erklärungen der drei Freikirchen zu Verhalten, Schuld und Versagen im NS-Deutschland liegen. Die Arbeit beginnt mit einer sehr allgemeinen Betrachtung über „Lage und Verhalten der Freikirchen im Dritten Reich“. Wegen der ungeheuren Größe des Themas beschränke ich mich hierbei und im Folgenden auf die Bischöflich methodistische Kirche , den Bund der Baptistengemeinden (ab 1941 Bund Evangelisch-Freikirchlicher Gemeinden) und die Gemeinschaft der Siebenten-Tags-Adventisten, wobei letztere ob des leichteren Zugangs zu Quellenliteratur den Schwerpunkt bildet. Für die Gemeinschaft der Siebenten-Tags-Adventisten erfolgt darüber hinaus eine gesonderte, kurze Skizzierung der eigenen Lage im Dritten Reich, da die Gemeinschaft zur damaligen Zeit nicht Mitglied in der Vereinigung Evangelischer Freikirchen (VEF) war und auch kaum als Freikirche angesehen wurde. Es wird sich aber zeigen, dass sich ihr Verhalten während und nach der NS-Zeit nicht wesentlich unterschied von dem anderer Freikirchen. Nach der Darstellung der Schuld- und Vergangenheitsverarbeitung anhand öffentlicher und persönlicher Stellungnahmen, Dokumenten und Verlautbarungen werden in einem dritten Schritt die offiziellen Erklärungen der drei Freikirchen zu Verhalten, Schuld und Versagen im Dritten Reich auf inhaltliche sowie äußere Aspekte (Entstehungszeit und -anlass, Veröffentlichung und Wirkung des Textes) untersucht und anschließend miteinander verglichen. In der folgenden Erarbeitung soll das Bewusstsein leitend sein, dass die Betrachtung von Schuld und Schuldverarbeitung aus einer Außenperspektive immer in der Gefahr steht, zu einer „Schuldzuweisung“ und damit selbst zu „Schuld“ zu werden, wenn nur noch das Versagen und nicht mehr die Menschen in ihren spezifischen Lebenssituationen gesehen werden. Um der Glaubhaftigkeit der christlichen Kirchen und ihrer Gläubigen willen ist es dennoch unbedingt erforderlich, dass das eigene Verhalten vor dem Hintergrund der Bibel – das heißt vor ethischen und theologischen Gesichtspunkten - ständig reflektiert wird, um mögliches Fehlverhalten zu erkennen, vor Gott und Menschen um Vergebung bitten zu können und frei zu werden für Gegenwart und Zukunft.

The passive bystander attitude described in the verse corresponds to the stance of the Free Churches in Germany towards the Jews during the NS regime. Engagement with this highly sensitive issue closes a gap in research on Free Churches. The aim of the book is to analyse the practice and church policy of the Free Churches on Jews between 1933 and 1945. For this contribution towards reappraising the past the editors succeeded in obtaining contributions from a large number of church historians from the Free Churches. Specifically, the contributions deal with the Quakers, the Mennonites, the Brethren Movement, Methodists, the Pentecostal Movement, the Free Evangelicals, the Independent Evangelical-Lutheran Churches, the Free Moravian Church, the Seventh-Day Adventists as well as the Austrian Free Churches. The contributions are introduced with a text on Free Church opinions of Jews in the late 19th and early 20th century. This book explores the total resistance to Nazism among the Catholic Christian voters of the Zentrum party in the elections in German states in the Interwar period. Kolden explains the unique Catholic resistance by comparing the diverging evolutions of Catholic and Protestant cultures and mentalities since the awakening of German nationalism in the late eighteenth century. During the Empire (1871–1918) both socialists and Catholics were regarded as pariah groups by the dominant non-socialist Protestant majority, and more so after the WWI defeat, when the pariah-parties, together with Protestant liberals, tried to accommodate the new democratic circumstances with their Weimar Constitution. When right-wing radicals, and eventually the Nazis, increased their support—largely on behalf of the rapid shrinking number of liberals—the Catholic church leaders showed a stubborn stance against the rightists, issuing several resolutions of condemnation, whereas no such appeared from their Protestant counterparts. In contrast, many local Protestant clergymen agitated for the Nazi party. The anti-Catholic sentiment, obvious among prominent Nazis, enhanced the antagonism, especially after the publication of Alfred Rosenberg’s The Myth of the 20th Century in 1930. The basic and profound confessional difference appears in the less Christian-profiled agrarian parties: anti-Semitic and right-wing radical Protestant parties confronted by one left-wing and democratic Catholic party. By 1945 the bulk of the former rightist Protestants sided with the Catholics, who reorganized their party to the non-denominational CDU, which has been the mightiest proponent in Europe of the former party’s ambitions of democracy, stability, anti-racism, human rights and European unity.
