Philip Cornell grows up on an Earth covered by elevated levels of oxygen produced by an uncontrollable verdure of moss. Government decrees against incendiary technology to prevent fires have collapsed the world economies into feuding city states where swords and bows and arrows are common weapons of the time. The Conservancy replaces the United States Federal Government and imposes its authority over the land. The near future will bring death for the moss and result in global fires that will burn the earth to a crisp. With salvaged materials, the Conservancy begins the task to build survival domes on the floor of New York Bay. Trained by the greatest logician of his time, Philip takes on his governments request for him to destroy mammoth crocodiles that threaten completion of the domes. Forced to accept the help of Josiah Rhue, the salvage kingpin and henchman of an enemy high in the government, Philip increases his understanding of Rhue until he realizes this enemy poses the greater threat to the survival of humankind.

Clear, provocative, and persuasive, Ever Green is an inspiring call to action to conserve Earth’s irreplaceable wild woods, counteract climate change, and save the planet. Five stunningly large forests remain on Earth: the Taiga, extending from the Pacific Ocean across all of Russia and far-northern Europe; the North American boreal, ranging from Alaska’s Bering seacoast to Canada’s Atlantic shore; the Amazon, covering almost the entirety of South America’s bulge; the Congo, occupying parts of six nations in Africa’s wet equatorial middle; and the island forest of New Guinea, twice the size of California. These megaforests are vital to preserving global biodiversity, thousands of cultures, and a stable climate, as economist John W. Reid and celebrated biologist Thomas E. Lovejoy argue convincingly in Ever Green. Megaforests serve an essential role in decarbonizing the atmosphere—the boreal alone holds 1.8 trillion metric tons of carbon in its deep soils and peat layers, 190 years’ worth of global emissions at 2019 levels—and saving them is the most immediate and affordable large-scale solution to our planet’s most formidable ongoing crisis. Reid and Lovejoy offer practical solutions to address the biggest challenges these forests face, from vastly expanding protected areas, to supporting Indigenous forest stewards, to planning smarter road networks. In gorgeous prose that evokes the majesty of these ancient forests along with the people and animals who inhabit them, Reid and Lovejoy take us on an exhilarating global journey.

Green Planet written by Stanley A Rice and has been published by Rutgers University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-01-28 with Nature categories.

Plants are not just a pretty part of the landscape; they keep the entire planet, with all of its human and nonhuman inhabitants, alive. Stanley Rice documents the many ways in which plants do this by making oxygen, regulating the greenhouse effect, controlling floods, and producing all the food in the world. Plants also create natural habitats for all organisms in the world. With illustrations and clear writing for non-specialists, Green Planet helps general readers realize that if we are to rescue the Earth from environmental disaster, we must protect wild plants. Beginning with an overview of how human civilization has altered the face of the Earth, particularly by the destruction of forests, the book details the startling consequences of these actions. Rice provides compelling reasons for government officials, economic leaders, and the public to support efforts to save threatened and endangered plants. Global campaigns to solve environmental problems with plants, such as the development of green roofs and the Green Belt Movement—a women's organization in Kenya that empowers communities worldwide to protect the environment—show readers that efforts to save wild plants can be successful and beneficial to the economic well-being of nations. Through current scientific evidence, readers see that plants are vital to the ecological health of our planet and understand what can be done to lead to a better—and greener—future Benefits of plants: Help modulate greenhouse gases Produce almost all oxygen in the air Create cool shade that reduces energy costs Prevent floods, droughts, and soil erosion Produce all of the food in the world Create and preserve soil Create natural habitats Heal the landscape after natural and human disasters

For the first time, a Tantric scholar and expert in the Hindu traditions of Ayurveda and astrology presents a system of numerology that combines numerical calculations, astrological data, and an analysis of body type. He illustrates the Vedic Square and the visual patterns that can be derived from it, casting a revealing light on the more esoteric interpretations of numbers and their relationship to one another. Recommendations are given regarding strong and weak periods of day or year, favorable colors and precious stones to be worn, and meditations and mantras to be practiced for health and prosperity. Explains how to determine the psychic number, name number, and destiny number; how these numbers relate to each of the nine planets, and how they apply to every aspect of life--including personality, temperament, intelligence, talents, sexuality, spirituality, finances, travel, and health.

Numerology uses numbers as a key to human behavior. It is an easy-to-learn method that exercises the mind’s intuitive faculty to fathom the depths of human personality. Numerologists have to forget their own identities and devote themselves totally to exploring the personalities of others. They must learn to become calm and empty before they are able to use their intuition. Practicing the art of numerology creates endurance, patience, and pointedness. Experience teaches numerologists more than books can teach. The information contained in books only opens the windows of the mind. One then has to work with one’s personal understanding of that information. Information alone is not knowledge; direct experience must be added before information becomes knowledge. Numerology is simple to learn and very engaging, like the creative arts. It teaches one sympathy toward others. For a numerologist the planets become embodied in a human form, and he or she can closely observe them as a part of the cosmic play. Those people who do not allow themselves the freedom of seeing the influence of the celestial and astral bodies cannot observe this play. Planets for them are objects in outer space that have no influence on their physical and mental make-up. To them all predictive sciences are useless. People who have time, faith, and enough patience, however, can watch this play and learn from it the lessons that will guide the consciousness of coming generations. Numerology is not a complete science. It is just one branch of the predictive sciences. To be a good numerologist one must become a good observer and a patient listener. Study of physiognomy and astrology is very necessary. Numerology is much simpler than astrology and does not require complicated mathematical calculations. There are just three things a numerologist needs to know: the day of the month a person was born, the numerological value of his or her popular name, and the person’s total birth information (date, month, and year). From astrology, the numerologist needs to know about all the zodiac signs, and a person’s day of birth, sun sign, and moon sign. In India, the season during which a person was born also has to be known, since that has an effect on one’s temperament. Certain information from physiognomy needs to be learned as well, such as how the shape and form of the various body parts correlate with an individual’s thinking process. (It is known, for example, that the perceptual world of tall people is different from that of short people.) The purpose of working with numbers is to save energy. People who act without a proper understanding of the right moment to start a job waste a lot of energy by making the wrong moves. Numerology provides the knowledge for such things as how to select the right moment, the right relationship, the right dwelling place—thereby saving energy.

Dictionary of Minor Planet Names, Fifth Edition, is the official reference for the field of the IAU, which serves as the internationally recognised authority for assigning designations to celestial bodies and any surface features on them. The accelerating rate of the discovery of minor planets has not only made a new edition of this established compendium necessary but has also significantly altered its scope: this thoroughly revised edition concentrates on the approximately 10,000 minor planets that carry a name. It provides authoritative information about the basis for all names of minor planets. In addition to being of practical value for identification purposes, this collection provides a most interesting historical insight into the work of those astronomers who over two centuries vested their affinities in a rich and colorful variety of ingenious names, from heavenly goddesses to more prosaic constructions. The fifth edition serves as the primary reference, with plans for complementary booklets with newly named bodies to be issued every three years.
