Excerpt from Exceptional Children and Public School Policy: Including a Mental Survey of the New Haven Elementary Schools This brief volume is based on a study of actual conditions. It aims not only to report the facts, but to give them a general interpretation from the standpoint of public policy. Our pur pose is to furnish, concisely and concretely, a just picture of the magnitude of the problem of exceptional school children, and to indicate the lines for the development of permanent constructive measures with reference to these children. In the fall of 1918 a mental survey of the elementary schools of the city of New Haven was undertaken. The survey was definitely a co-operative enterprise and depended upon the generous assistance of the regular and Special teachers who reported the data. We wish to acknowledge our indebtedness to these teachers, as well as to Miss Norma Cutts, Supervisor of Special Classes, and to Mr. Arthur Otis who rendered ao tive assistance in treating the data and preparing the same for statistical presentation. Some of the allusions in the text will be found to be purely local in character, but it is hoped that the general reader will give them an algebraic interpretation. Equivalent findings and recommendations apply to other communities, both larger and smaller. We have aimed to treat the subject in such a manner that any school board official, teacher, administrator or citizen may get a comprehensive glimpse of the problem without undue distraction by details. Therefore the discussion is uniformly brief. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Legal Issues In Special Education written by Kevin P. Brady and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-10-28 with Education categories.

Legal Issues in Special Education provides teachers and school administrators with a clearly written, well-organized, and understandable guide from the perspective of the practitioner without formal legal training. Even though over 50 percent of students with disabilities are now educated in general education classes, most teachers are not required to complete coursework in special education law and can unwittingly expose themselves and their schools to liability for violating the rights of students with disabilities. This practitioner’s guide explicitly addresses the major issues and legal complexities educators inevitably face when dealing with special education legal and policy issues. Using case-based learning to synthesize important legal concepts and principles from leading special education legal cases, this text guides educators, administrators, and parents alike toward a thorough understanding of, and the ability to navigate, many of the current and pressing legal concerns in special education.
