"Practitioners should always develop exercise prescription with consideration for an individual's health history, but this is especially true for individuals with a history of chronic disease. Exercise Prescription for Special Populations delves into how practitioners should prescribe exercise for those with conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension, as well as for those who are pregnant, wheelchair-dependent, or adolescents. Exercise Prescription for Special Populations utilizes a hybrid approach, combining elements of a traditional textbook and a "field guide" reference, with summative tables at the end of each chapter fulfilling the latter function. This reference aspect makes this text an ideal fit not just for upper-level undergraduate and graduate-level Exercise Science students, but also for exercise physiologists and personal fitness trainers working in fitness centers, hospitals, and in-/out-patient cardiac rehabilitation programs"--Provided by publisher.

Aerobic Exercise In Special Populations written by Carlos Ayan Perez and has been published by Nova Science Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Chronic diseases categories.

Currently, modern chronic diseases are the leading killers in Westernised society and are increasing rampantly in developing nations. Considerable knowledge has accumulated in recent decades showing that physical exercise can be a very effective non-pharmacological strategy in the treatment of these pathologies, and as a result, several types of physical exercise are recommended in this matter. Aerobic exercise has been recognised as a safe and beneficial physical training modality for a number of chronic conditions, yet physicians do not know how to prescribe it. This chapter aims to discuss the effects of aerobic exercise in the treatment of metabolic syndrome-related disorders (diabetes, hypertension and obesity), heart and pulmonary diseases (coronary heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma), locomotive apparatus disorders (rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis systemic lupus erythematosus and fibromyalgia), neurological diseases (multiple sclerosis), and gastrointestinal disorders (Crohns Disease). The suggested potential mechanisms for the beneficial effects of aerobic exercise are discussed and some basic guidelines for exercise prescription in this kind of populations are given. "
