She talks her friend Gina Austin into accompanying her on a sojourn that will change their lives forever as they meet two fascinating men, one a suave Englishman and the other a rugged game ranger. Mutual attraction is inevitable. Unfortunately, their trip into the Dark Continent is not all joy, but is an eye-opener for both Kyle and Gina as they find themselves trapped in an untenable situation of deceit and treachery that involves murder, harrowing adventures in the bush and a tapestry of coercion. Since photographs are interwoven into the text, giving you privy to the majestic animals, the settings and the thrills that take place, you’ll feel as if you are, indeed, on safari with Kyle and Gina.

The Oxford Handbook Of Popular Music In The Nordic Countries written by Fabian Holt and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-03 with Music categories.

Popular music has come to play a significant role in the political and cultural history of the Nordic countries. Research on the region's culture has largely followed national narratives created by political and economic institutions, even as cultural life in the region--which spans a large area of northern Europe and the North Atlantic--displays more complex geographies and evolving global dynamics. As the first of its kind, The Oxford Handbook of Popular Music in the Nordic Countries offers a series of exemplary studies of music in these transnational dynamics in the specific context of the region's cultures and natural environments, written by the foremost experts in the field. Chapters highlight and challenge music's place in exotic images of the North and in transnational environmentalism, tourism, racism, and media industries. The Handbook illustrates how transnational dynamics evolve and shape musical life and the institutional spheres of policy, education, and research.

Experiencing Creativity written by Robert N. Wilson and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-16 with Psychology categories.

First published in 1986, neither the creative process nor the art object, singly or together, has been often in the forefront of sociological attention. The author suggests that we may safely assume that art is multidetermined, and that an adequate explanation of creativity will draw upon the conceptual and evidential resources of psychology, sociology, and anthropology. This is a study building on Harry Murray’s classic Explorations in Personality of the 1930s.

Paralyses written by John Culbert and has been published by U of Nebraska Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-01-01 with Literary Criticism categories.

Modernity has long been equated with motion, travel, and change, from Marx's critical diagnoses of economic instability to the Futurists' glorification of speed. Likewise, metaphors of travel serve widely in discussions of empire, cultural contact, translation, and globalization, from Deleuze's "nomadology" to James Clifford's "traveling cultures." John Culbert, in contrast, argues that the key texts of modernity and postmodernity may be approached through figures and narratives of paralysis: motion is no more defining of modern travel than fixations, resistance, and impasse; concepts and figures of travel, he posits, must be rethought in this more static light. Focusing on the French and Francophone context, in which paralyzed travel is a persistent motif, Culbert also offers new insights into French critical theory and its often paradoxical figures of mobility, from Blanchot'spas au-delaand Barthes'sderiveto Derrida'saporiasand Glissant'sdiversions. Here we see that paralysis is not merely the failure of transport but rather the condition in which travel, by coming to a crisis, calls into question both mobility and stasis in the language of desire and the order of knowledge.Paralysesprovides a close analysis of the rhetoric of empire and the economy of tourism precisely at their points of breakdown, which in turn enables a deconstruction of master narratives of exploration, conquest, and exoticism. A reassessment of key authors of French modernity--from Nerval and Gautier to Fromentin, Paulhan, Beckett, Leiris, and Boudjedra--Paralysesalso constitutes a new theoretical intervention in debates on travel, translation, ethics, and postcoloniality.

The Intellectual American written by Eric B. Olsen and has been published by Xlibris Corporation this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-03-15 with Literary Criticism categories.

In his first collection of essays, author and educator Eric B. Olsen offers the reader a wide range of analytical thought and cultural criticism. The book opens by examining the history of film in the twentieth century and then analyzing literature from ancient Greek drama to modern American poetry, as well as commenting on jazz and popular music. The final group of essays concerns topics as diverse as climate change, popular culture, religion, anti-intellectualism and politics. Drawing on a broad base of literary and social criticism, from the philosophical thought of Plato and Aristotle to the writings of Lionel Trilling and Richard Hofstadter, The Intellectual American is a work of confident scholarship and the herald of a new voice in American letters.
