Notre étude comporte quatre parties. Dans une première partie sont rassemblées les notions de phonation et d'audition-perception nécessaires à la compréhension de la suite du travail. On y trouve aussi des généralité sur la reconnaissance de formes, dont la reconnaissance vocale ne constitue qu'un aspect et enfin un bilan actuel sur la reconnaissance de la parole. La deuxième partie concerne l'analyse et la paramétrisation de la parole. La partie analyse est surtout consacrée à la transformée de Fourier et à son équivalent analogique, l'analyse par banc de filtres. C'est une méthode d'analyse spectrale qui est utilisée dans nos expériences de reconnaissance. Ensuite, on expose une méthode d'extraction de paramètres pertinents par compression d'information, que nous avons adaptée à la reconnaissance de la parole. La reconnaissance vocale, au niveau acoustique, fait l'objet de la troisième partie. Toutes les expériences décrites fonctionnent en temps réel sur l'ordinateur T 2000 du Laboratoire d'Electricité et d'Automatique. Il s'agit à la fois d'expériences globales de reconnaissance de mots et d'expériences analytiques de segments obtenus par segmentation automatique des mots. A cette occasion, les problèmes de recherche lexicale sont abordés. Enfin une étude comparée des deux approches, globale et analytique, eprmet de tirer quelques conclusions. La quatrième partie, enfin, traite des niveaux supérieurs de reconnaissance : linguistique et syntaxique. Dans un premier temps, on étudie l'optimisation d'une chaîne de phonèmes par utilisation de contraintes linguistiques. Ces contraintes sont constituées de résultats statistiques sur les associations phonémiques, détemrinés dans une étude préliminaire du français parlé. Ces études ont été effectuées en temps différé sur 10070 pour des questions de taille mémoire. Ensuite, on effectue la reconnaissance, en temps réel, de phrases de commande numérique de machines-outils, avec une analyse syntaxique rudimentaire, qui constitue une approche intéressante de la reconnaissance syntaxique.

This book is the result of the second NATO Advanced Study Institute on speech processing held at the Chateau de Bonas, France, from June 29th to July 10th, 1981. This Institute provided a high-level coverage of the fields of speech transmission, recognition and understanding, which constitute important areas where research activity has re cently been associated with actual industrial developments. This book will therefore include both fundamental and applied topics. Ten survey papers by some of the best specialists in the field are included. They give an up-to-date presentation of several important problems in automatic speech processing. As a consequence the book can be considered as a reference manual on some important areas of automatic speech processing. The surveys are indicated by 'a * in the table of contents. This book also contains research papers corresponding to original works, which were presented during the panel sessions of the Institute.
