Expanding Approaches to Thematic Analysis: Creative Engagements with Qualitative Data springboards readers into a world where generating themes from qualitative data is a creative, experimental, and wondrous process! While no one ever said it had to be, thematic analysis is invariably described as a step-by-step process that involves coding. Yet qualitative data analysis is more than a technical procedure—it invokes imagination and inspiration—intuitional engagements that are as vital to the data analysis process as they are difficult to describe. This edited book begins with two premises: (1) there is more than one way to theme data, and (2) qualitative researchers do not have to code to get to themes. Each chapter introduces readers to a different approach to thematic analysis, explores that approach’s theoretical and disciplinary roots, and illustrates how that approach can be used to generate themes. Approaches include annotating, memoing, storying, writing, composing poems, artmaking, meditating, and more, expanding conceptualizations of what themes and thematic analysis can be. The book also includes ‘methodologies in action’: helpful examples of creative theming from doctoral students and early career scholars. This book is as much a provocation for engaging thematic analysis beyond/without/in addition to coding as it is a resource for anyone interested in the rationale, justification, and examples for doing so. As such, it is a source of inspiration for any qualitative student, researcher, and scholar who wishes to expand their repertoire of approaches to thematic analysis.

Creating Critical Research Poetry critically engages with the ways in which researchers can poetically approach textual representations that narrate the unnarratable and contest the uncontested. This text provides a rich path for early research poets to engage with and bloom and established research poets to dig deeper and flourish. Connections to literary poetry and critical social science theories are detailed. First-person poetic accounts where poets describe early fruitful engagement with poetic forms are highlighted. Free verse, formed poetry, and dimensional poems (e.g. concrete poetry) are covered in depth, with guidance for developing a poetic sensibility and honing research poetry craft. Poetic experiences are integrated throughout the book, which may be engaged with individually, as a group, and in virtual or face-to-face courses. Each chapter provides reflexive questions for the reader to engage with in their own journal writings, a poem creation exercise, and further poetic resources. Set within critical theories, Creating Critical Research Poetry provides a context for early research poets, and thought-provoking possibilities for seasoned research poets. This is the perfect entry point to this burgeoning field of critical inquiry and qualitative research.

Modes Of Thinking For Qualitative Data Analysis written by Melissa Freeman and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-06-20 with Education categories.
Modes of Thinking for Qualitative Data Analysis offers a creative and comparative account of the conceptual and philosophical underpinnings of six prominent analytical movements used by interdisciplinary qualitative researchers: Categorical thinking, narrative thinking, dialectical thinking, poetic thinking, diffractive thinking, and decolonial thinking. Each “mode of thinking” engages in a particular process for analytical sense-making. Every chapter describes core characteristics of the focal analytical movement along with examples to illustrate what that approach might look like in practice. By presenting these analytical movements in the space of a single text, the author not only highlights their unique contributions to qualitative analysis but also creates a structure from which to understand their strengths and challenges, as well as the kind of outcomes and realities each participates in shaping. This book is a thought-provoking resource for experienced and novice interdisciplinary qualitative researchers seeking to deepen their understanding of the variety of ways qualitative analysis is, and could be, theorized and practiced.

Relational Encounters With Folk School Pedagogies written by Amber Ward and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-03-18 with Education categories.
This book explores folk school pedagogies through craft as creative inquiry. Using a study at and inspired by The Clearing Folk School, a continuing education institution located at the northern tip of the Door County Peninsula, Wisconsin, United States, it explores the crafting of teaching practices from learners, educators, researchers, artists, animals, land, plants, and sky. The author shows how such practices function as an antidote to contemporary anthropocentric, environmental, and political crises. Contributing to conversations in posthuman ethics, it engages folk school pedagogies between humans and more-than-humans through thinking, writing, folding, interviewing, collaging, and journaling. Exploring craft as creative inquiry that works against conventional methods of and assumptions about research, it ultimately investigates the utility of folk school teaching practices that highlight relations between beings and things as kin. As such, it will appeal to scholars, researchers, faculty, and postgraduate students working across research methods, arts education, and educational philosophy by taking seriously relational pedagogies and perspectives through craft as creative inquiry.
