Over the past thirty years, while offering retreats, spiritual direction, and preached missions, the author was privileged to accompany many on their spiritual journey. She highlights here their common desires for peace, purpose, and meaning in life, ways to deal with suffering and death, among other life experiences. The author recounts how each experienced a "breakthrough" moment in their relationship with God. Reading these stories, one can easily recognize that transforming moment when each person experienced God's compassion and as a result, everything changed in his or her life. These stories capture various dynamic aspects of our spiritual journey with God and others. Ultimately, at the heart of our spiritual journey is God's never-ending desire to draw us into a loving relationship. We too can rediscover that God has been searching for us, while we have been searching for God. Through the reading of these stories, scripture, and insights, we can reclaim our own desires and continue to deepen in loving union with our compassionate God, and be "carriers" of compassion for others.

Work is the place where we spend the majority of our lives— yet it is the place where God is experienced the least. Experiencing God in Your Work gives inspirational perspectives and practical ideas on how to discover God in the normal flow of your everyday work life. Compelling personal stories, anecdotes, and quotations from both classic and modern Christian thinkers, makes this biblical based guide a great choice for either personal study or group discussion. “Joe Carroll skillfully addresses the key issues every worker faces – practically, biblically and with understanding of the dilemma of work and life. His writing has the aroma of reality and the empathy of one who has lived what he writes. This is a vital book for everyone who works… ” Jerry White, PhD • Major General, USAF, Ret, International President Emeritus – The Navigators “As a workplace follower of Christ, Joe brings a unique perspective to men and women who would like to experience the joy of seeing God at work in their work but all too often fall asleep spiritually. Using both workplace and biblical examples, this study will help you awaken to and enjoy Christ’s presence in your work.” Bill Peel, DMin • Executive Director, Center for Faith & Work at LeTourneau University “This book looks at how to work effectively and wisely from a myriad of angles. It is loaded with solid practical and biblical advice. It will change the way you work, not just by answering why you work but showing how meaningful work can be.” Darrell Bock, PhD • Senior Research Professor of New Testament Studies Executive Director for Cultural Engagement, Dallas Theological Seminary “I know from experience that Joe Carroll lives and writes with the same aim--to help us connect with God in our work. It is easy to see myself in the real world stories he shares. While the book provides God’s perspective on work from a Biblical perspective, almost everyone will benefit from the chapters on experiencing God’s presence in your work. For me, the chapters on living courageously and living with integrity were the most helpful in giving me perspective for my own work and for the students who ask my advice.” Michael K. Shaub, PhD • Clinical Professor of Accounting, Texas A & M University

God Has A Name written by John Mark Comer and has been published by Thomas Nelson this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-10-15 with Religion categories.

What you believe about God sets the foundation of the person you will become. In God Has a Name, pastor and New York Times bestselling author John Mark Comer invites you to rethink many of the prevalent myths and misconceptions about God and weigh them against what God actually tells us about himself. After all, what you believe about God will ultimately shape the type of person you become. We all live at the mercy of our ideas, and nowhere is this more true than our ideas about God. The problem is many of our ideas about God are wrong. Not all wrong, but wrong enough to form our souls in detrimental and disheartening ways. God Has a Name is a simple yet profound guide to understanding God in a new light--focusing on what God says about himself in the Bible. This one shift has the potential to radically alter how you relate to God, not as a doctrine, but as a relational being who responds to you in an elastic, back-and-forth way. John Mark Comer takes you line by line through Exodus 34:6-8--Yahweh's self-revelation on Mount Sinai, one of the most quoted passages in the Bible. Along the way, Comer addresses some of the most profound questions he came across as he studied these noted lines in Exodus, including: Why do we feel this gap between us and God? Could it be that a lot of what we think about God is wrong? Not all wrong, but wrong enough to mess up how we relate to him? What if our "God" is really a projection of our own identity, ideas, and desires? What if the real God is different, but far better than we could ever imagine? No matter where you are in your spiritual journey, God Has a Name invites you to step into a fresh and biblically rooted vision of who God is that has the potential to alter your life with God and shape who you become.

From Suffering To God written by Santiago Sia and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1994-09-13 with Philosophy categories.

'A splendid book! The authors give a moving account of a tragic aspect of our present human world. It is a scholarly, learned account.' - Charles Hartshorne, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy, University of Texas at Austin Does the reality of suffering disclose anything about God's nature? The authors address this fundamental question by reflecting on some theistic responses to the challenge of suffering. Taking seriously the persistence of theistic belief despite widespread suffering, they focus on the practical ways some believers deal with suffering: by 'suffering with those in affliction' and 'working for the liberation of those who are opposed.' They then investigate the possibility of describing God as 'co-sufferer' and 'liberator.' In their exploration they turn to literature, theology and philosophy and offer an interesting interpretation of the relationship between these disciplines. Part I contains literary and descriptive reflections on the experiences of certain theists faced with the reality of suffering. The authors present and analyse the concerns, fears and hopes expressed in the book of Job and selected poems by Hopkins, Vaughan, Donne and Herbert. They then try to show that an important challenge that needs to be investigated and met, given the presence of so much suffering in the world, is discovering the kind of God in whom we can credibly continue to believe. This question is developed theologically and philosophically in Part II. In developing some answers, the authors turn to Latin American liberation theology and Charles Hartshorne's process philosophy and offer a new synthesis of these two schools of thought. Their exploration is an interesting illustration of how literature, theology and philosophy can throw some light on an area of common concern.

The Power of God's Consciousness was written to transform the lives and consciousness of mankind. It was written to transform mankind from a sinful nature and more into fellowship with God. When we read and study God's divine Word, we realize how God's Word can become the bread of life for mankind. God's Word must become the bread of life in our lives so that we can experience how God's Word is able to manifest itself in our lives. We have to implement God's Word in our hearts and minds as God's Word becomes a part of our lives. We have to develop the discipline in our lifestyles that reflect the life of Jesus Christ. Everything that we do at this point in our lives should reflect our discipline and consciousness of God's divine Word in our hearts and is acted out in our lives. When we have confidence and courage in God's divine Word, we are better able to enhance and develop our faith in God. We can only understand our purpose and reason for living through how we define God's consciousness in our lives.
