Experimental Chemotherapy, Volume IV: Chemotherapy of Neoplastic Diseases, Part I focuses on the use of chemotherapy to counteract neoplastic ailments. The book first discusses the chemotherapy of neoplastic diseases, and this includes approaches to cancer chemotherapy, methods of drug evaluation, and the effects of antitumor antibiotics. The text also presents an appendix to the previous volumes. Toxicity and drug resistance in chemotherapy; chemotherapy of trypanosomiasis, giardiasis, and histomoniasis; and the use of antibiotics in chemotherapy are discussed. Experiments on the processes, methodologies, and medical interventions on the chemotherapy of these ailments are given importance. The book also identifies some antibiotics used in the chemotherapy of fungal and bacterial infections. These antibiotics include pimaricin, fucidin, gramicidin, lincomycin, and rifamycin SV. The book is a vital reference for readers wanting to explore the potential of chemotherapy on medical interventions on neoplastic diseases.

Experimental Chemotherapy, Volume I, attempts to condense the existing knowledge in the broad field of experimental chemotherapy in a comprehensive form. The arrangement of the subject matter follows a plan by which the not always avoidable repetitive description is reduced to a minimum. In most of the protozoan and metazoan infections it appeared advantageous to discuss the different series of active compounds according to the specific diseases and their causative agents. In other cases, owing to the wide range of activity of certain antibacterials, the material is arranged according to the groups of compounds. This first volume deals with infections caused by parasites, both protozoan and metazoan; it also contains general chapters on history of chemotherapy, toxicology, statistics, and drug resistance. It is hoped that the treatise will be useful to experimental workers engaged in the search for new chemotherapeutic remedies and in the study of their mechanism of action; to all who are involved in the teaching of pharmacology and therapeutics; and to physicians and veterinarians interested in the experimental basis of the drugs they are using.

As in CANCER CHEMOTHERAPY 1, this volume brings to the reader highlights in three different areas of cancer therapeutics: new concepts and models; drug classes; and clinical settings. Topics were chosen because of their timeliness or probable current impact in cancer treatment. Authors were selected on the basis of their ability to provide a critical overview of specific subjects and their involvement in original work. I shall review the aims of this second volume, and then elaborate on the scope of its con tents. The principal aim of the volumes on cancer chemotherapy in the' Cancer Treatment and Research' series, as stated in the preface to the first volume, is to assemble in a concentrated form selected ingredients of chemothera peutic progress. These ingredients are to include concepts in therapeutic strategy, pre-clinical studies, development of major classes of compounds, identificatlon of new directions and of landmarks of clinical progress. Thus we do not foresee overlap with series which provide an yearly update of chemotherapy in an encyclopedic manner, or reviews of cancer chemother apy. Unlike those publications, our volumes are not intended to seek a place in shelves as a reference manual. It is this Editor's hope that persons repre senting various biomedical disciplines will seek the' Cancer Treatment and Research' chemotherapy volumes to survey advances in the field at regular intervals.

Kinetics Of Experimental Tumour Processes written by N. M. Emanuel and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-22 with Medical categories.

Kinetics of Experimental Tumour Processes focuses on the principles of the kinetics of experimental malignant growth. This book also looks into the molecular mechanisms of chemotherapy and certain problems of carcinogenesis and biochemistry. Organized into eight chapters, this monograph first describes the kinetic curve for tumor growth and the experimental data on tumor growth from the USSR and elsewhere. Subsequent chapters deal with kinetic analysis of the results obtained by various treatments of tumors; pharmacokinetic methods of major regularities connected with general problems of cancer chemotherapy; molecular mechanisms of chemotherapy; and the role of free radicals in the mechanisms of carcinogenesis and tumor growth. The last two chapters detail the kinetic analysis of biochemical shifts occurring in tumor tissues and the disturbance of structure and biosynthesis of informational macromolecules occurring in tumor growth. This book will help in the mutual efforts among researchers for the solution of the most important current problems in oncology.

Experimental chemotherapy continues to be at the forefront of cancer thera peutics. Topics covered in the preceding volume on cancer chemotherapy in this series such as study of drugs by alkaline elution, the development of the antimetabolite tiazofurin, and the treatment of germ cell tumors have become informative references to current experimentalists and practitioners. In even earlier volumes, reviews of the platinum compounds, anthracyclines, and osteosarcoma represent topics associated with such rapid progress requiring a look back to provide the appropriate perspective. Similarly, we venture to predict that the topics in this volume will become useful landmarks for future drug development and disease strategies. In the area of drug development, what is being learned about old, estab lished antineoplastics is raising renewed expectations that it will be translated into improved applications and patient benefit. For example, we now have the ability to modulate the action of alkylating agents and fluorinated pyri midines to achieve greater sensitivity. A new compound for an old target, trimetrexate, an antifolate that does not polyglutaminate, will have a role not only in treatment of neoplastic diseases, but also protozoal infection.
